Cuts of hundreds of staff members at the White House and at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence have curbed leaks and stifled anti-Trump activists within both agencies, according to senior administration officials.
Acting DNI Richard Grenell, who stepped down Tuesday, streamlined ODNI in his four months in office by reducing staff and contractor positions by as much as 400.
Mr. Grenell said other positive reforms during his brief stint included declassifying congressional testimony showing no collusion between Trump officials and Russia in 2016, and imposing rules to protect the identities of U.S. officials inadvertently captured in overseas intelligence intercepts.
The changes were aimed at shifting the focus of ODNI away from being a separate intelligence agency and toward its original mission as a coordinating body for 17 U.S. spy services.
My philosophy going in to ODNI was that it was designed to be a coordinating body of the intelligence agencies, not a competing agency, Mr. Grenell, who is also leaving his concurrent post as ambassador to Germany, told The Washington Times in an interview.
Ever since my first intelligence briefing in 2001, Ive realized, as a consumer of intelligence, that in order for [intelligence] to be useful, it must be utilized by policymakers, he said.
Mr. Grenell commented on his eventful four-month tenure as the top intelligence adviser to the president.

Gertz bump for later... .
Good job, Rick Grenell
Good! get rid of every one of the bastards.
If you dont like us, or being here, we are helping you out the door.
Good job, but sad that it took the Ukraine hoax to really spur this on. Really unfortunate that so many Obama/Democrat hacks were allowed to stay on for 3 years under the misguided idea that they were professionals and patriots... when in fact they were doing everything in their power to undermine the president.
Grenell reminds me of Lincoln’s quote when he was attacked in the press over Grant’s drinking with demands for his dismissal. Lincoln responded, “I need this man - he fights!’ Dump Wray as head of the FBI and install Grenell instead.
Thats a great idea! Wray must go
Grenell has done an admirable job in the role. We can only hope his example is noted and adopted, going forward.
Rat infestations need to be addressed with aggressive actions.
I can tell you ODNI has too many Trump haters in it.
There isn’t supposed to be any resistance within the executive branch
A little off-topic, but I believe that pandemic hoax has presented Trump with a perfect opportunity to gut or eliminate a number of federal agencies in his second term.
Department of Education would be an excellent one to abolish. Actually, they would all be excellent candidates for the trash heap.
We have to cut costs somewhere. It’s time the bureaucrat class shared in the pain.
17 spy agencies? Why?
“17 spy agencies?”
Yup.
And they did not stop “Russian interference in our elections.”
Trump said it the other day, he does have a chance to drain the DC swamp and it’s finally starting to happen. YEA!! Trump needs our support and prayers more than ever now because the swampers are sure tointensify their effort to get rid of him before he gets rid of them.
They didnt do anything about Chinese spies in our universities or in our research facilities either.
Again, Grenell did great work. Not only FINALLY declassifying information that should have been declassified 3 years ago but also slashing a lot of the worthless Obamabots brought in to help sabotage the Trump administration.
First the Bad Cop fires the 400 fishiest looking employees.
Then the Good Cop comes in, and expands 400 new positions for pipe-hitting mole hunters.
