"Don’t forget Fort McClellan, Alabama. Of course George McClellan did train the Army of the Potomac well, but in the field he was the Confederacy’s secret weapon..."

Fort McClellan has a special place in my heart - it was the Military Police Center and School when I was on active duty.

McClellan was an excellent administrator, but was not an aggressive battlefield commander. I believe it was McClellan to whom Lincoln said, "General, if you're not going to use my Army, may I have it back."

Still - the McClellan saddle which he designed (M1859) after extensive tours of European Cavalry schools has the distinction of being the US military's longest serving isue item in unbroken, continued service since 1859 (albeit now primarily by ceremonial units). The USMC officer's Mameluke Sword was originally adopted in 1825, but was not authorized for official uniform wear between 1859–1875.

***It argued that “it is time to rename bases for American heroes — not racist traitors.”***

True to form. After the Civil War, all NYC newspapers wanted Jefferson Davis released from prison. Only the NY Times wanted him tried for treason.
Salmon P. Chase refused to give Davis a treason trial fearing Davis might prove secession legal and the Union as the aggressor in the war.

The whole war was not about slavery so give it up NYT, you are just a bunch of lowlife rabble rousers.

For the NYTimes, it's twofer. They got to piss on the military during Memorial Day and piss on the South.

The government should only honor those who are perfect. No honoring of womanizers, or those who cuss, or appropriate anothers culture. They must virtue signal perfectly in a way that does not come back to bite anyone.

Maybe not, but when I see what happened to many historical sites such as the Alamo which is but a shell of it’s former self, I think that a cemetary devoted to our honorable dead beats having the site parcelled off bit by bit over time and now covered in concrete and steel.

‘What a dishonor to both sides of the Civil War.’

yes, it’s absolutely absurd that 155 years later these nuts are attempting to apply modern psychology to a former era, a society that was a product of its own time, as all societies are...

How about a Fort George Henry Thomas?

Best general on either side. Never lost a battle. Creamed the Rebs at Nashville.

The left needs to quit fabricating absurd justifications for spewing its hatred against everything that is American, from the flag to the military and freedom itself. It’s time they just admit that they hate us for hate’s sake and nothing can change that fact.

Confederate soldiers were US citizens go pick up a history book I mean a real history book not the crap you learned in high school and grade school it’s showing

You're the dumbass, not me.

There is a 1950s law that conferred equal veteran status to all who fought in the Confederacy.

The fact that they were U.S. citizens isn't even relevant to the point.
