DETROIT (WXYZ) — Jaden Hayden, 20, of Ypsilanti, has been charged with two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and larceny in connection to the beating of a 75-year-old nursing home patient in Detroit.
The assault was captured on video by the alleged suspect.
“The alleged actions of this defendant are truly and uniquely disturbing," said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. "We must be able to trust our loved ones in specialty care facilities. I truly hope that the facts of this case are one of a kind”, said Prosecutor Worthy."
The incident happened Friday, May 10 just before 7 p.m. at the Westwood Nursing Center, 16588 Schaefer Highway.
Hayden was sharing a room with Norman Bledsoe, the victim, at the nursing home. Hayden allegedly attacked Bledsoe by repeatedly punching the victim in the head, police say.
When nursing staff came to the room, Hayden allegedly told them the Bledsoe had fallen out of his bed, causing the injury. The victim was then taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Hayden then allegedly posted video of the assault on social media, then said that he had stolen Bledsoe's credit cards.
Hayden was arraigned in 34th District Court in Romulus on Sunday. He received a $300,000 cash or surety bond with a GPS tether if he is released. His next court date is June 4.

I saw the video on Twitter and it sickened me to no end. I wish we could find out if the poor victim is doing ok and if he has any family. I can’t stop thinking about him.
I just saw another disturbing video on twitter of old folks getting abused. It’s disgusting and I believe rampant. Videos are sure popping up.
This has to be stopped. It’s heartbreaking.

Considering we saw it with our own eyes, Calling that monster an ‘alleged suspect’ ticks me off. They could have found a better term. It’s Lazy journalism and quite insulting.

Last year the hospital that treated my mom wanted to send her to a nursing home for physical therapy. I refused to let her go. They tried hard to manipulate me in various ways to have her sent there. I wouldn’t budge. Yes, she needed PT as she was very weak at the time, But, I took her home instead and had PT arranged at her home. I couldn’t bare the thought of neglect or worse.
Assault With Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder, the Prosecution must prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that you tried to physically injure another person, you had or believed you had the ability to cause an injury, or you intended to cause Great Bodily Harm. Actual injury is not necessary, but if there was an injury, it may be considered evidence in deciding whether the defendant intended to cause great bodily harm.
“Great Bodily Harm” means any physical injury which could seriously harm the health or function of the body.
Assault With Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder has a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in State Prison. It can be hard to tell whether an assault causing injury will be charged with Aggravated Assault or Assault GBH. While the misdemeanor Aggravated Assault requires an injury, the 10-year felony Assault With Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder requires no injury at all.

What actually constitutes Assault GBH?
According to People v. Stevens, 306 Mich App 620 (2014) n order to be convicted of this offense at trial, the prosecution must prove 2 elements beyond a reasonable doubt: (1) an attempt or threat with force or violence to do corporal harm to another (an assault), and (2) an intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.

He won’t be able to make bail, and I hope he’s put in a holding cell with a Golden Gloves heavy-weight regional champeen, who’ll give him a few boxing lessons he won’t soon forget.
They don’t like child abusers in prison one bit. I’d assume elder abusers get a warm welcome, too.
