New York City will turn into shell of former self after coronavirus crisis
The Hill ^ | 05 24 2020 | Kristin Tate

Imagine New York City five years from now with streets full of abandoned storefronts, closed eateries, and empty buildings. The cumulative effects of the coronavirus may be more overwhelming than the other challenges New York City has had to face during the past two generations, including the aftermath of 9/ 11. It is likely that the pandemic will simply accelerate the trend in the sharp decline of its population and livelihoods.

New York City was already losing population before the outbreak due to economic factors and quality of life issues. Around 40,000 residents left between 2017 and 2018 alone. The coronavirus has fueled the population outflow. About 420,000 residents have fled New York City in the last few months. Even worse for its economy, the majority of those who left amid the pandemic are wealthy workers. Many of them went to low tax havens in the south, such as Texas, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina.

Eventually, it will not only be the 1 percent who leave. The unemployment rate in New York City has risen above 14 percent. Residents without a job or reduced hours will no longer have the income to keep paying sky high rents for tiny living quarters. Meanwhile, workers who have not been laid off or furloughed have been working remotely, a trend that may continue for years to come. Nearly 70 percent of those in finance and technology will consider relocating if working remotely becomes permanent.

The loss of a Congressional seat or two will be a good thing for the rest of the country!

There will have to be some enlightenment in government policies. A repentance from progressive insanity and a liberation of the marketplace.

That is my fervent hope!

These LIEberal Democrats have fouled their own nests to the point that NOT ONE SINGLE ONE OF THEM SHOULD BE RE-ELECTED!

We the People should fire EVERY DAMN ONE OF THEM!

GET BUSY, FREEPERS, WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO!

New York was the beating heart of American capitalism and hustle.

When you got off of the train at Penn station, it felt like there was an electric current running through the streets: everyone had a hustle, had a place they had to get to right now. It was dirty, loud, and would soon become the most dangerous first-world city. And it was, after the ravages of WWII, the center of the economic universe.

The day they tore Penn station down, was the day the the knife was plunged into the Big Apple's heart.

Watch the John Carpenter movie, “ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.” New York City is inherently unhealthy because of its dense population. The wealthy are leaving. Only the poor who cannot afford to leave will remain...trapped like rats.

The ugly truth is nobody in the rest of America needs anything New York City has. NYC has been “where the action is” but now there is no action. It costs way too much to live there and now there is nothing left to attract the wealthy.

Blue cities, counties, and states are in BIG trouble, as well they should be given their LIEberal/Socialist/Marxist/Fascist/Communist policies!

They are, IMHO, self destructing right before our very eyes!

Keep digging, LIEberals! Keep digging!

Unless the virus never goes away and kills with a vengeance things will return to the way they were. Until next time.

If left alone and unpoliticized in less than a year things will return to normal. But that's not going to happen.

Democrats are going to create endless narratives for why we need a 'new normal' and most Democrat drones will happily go along, 'for the children'.

Big fights ahead in the near future.

Nothing is sadder than watching a from the 1940 or 50s that features NYC street scenes. Miracle on 34th Street from 1947 is an example.

The unemployment rate in New York City has risen above 14 percent.

While this may be a true statement, it's hard to be employed at a business that has been shut down by either Di Blasio, Cuomo, or Fauci. I discount any and all comments about unemployment rates since we were forced into house arrest.

A new narrative that Democrats are creating is how people of color have been more effected by Covid19 more than other populations. Can’t let the guilt stop for a minute.
