Former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired back at President Donald Trump over the latest personal insult aimed at supporting his competitor in the Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat.
The president endorsed former college football coach Tommy Tuberville over his old attorney general and has openly berated Sessions for recusing him in the Department of Justice investigation into Russian election interference.
"3 years ago, after Jeff Sessions recused himself, the Fraudulent Mueller Scam began. Alabama, do not trust Jeff Sessions. He let our Country down. That's why I endorsed Coach Tommy Tuberville (@TTuberville), the true supporter of our #MAGA agenda!" the president tweeted on Friday.
While Sessions has faced the slings and arrows of public insults from the president in the past with nary a word of protest, he finally issued a response in his defense.
"Look, I know your anger, but recusal was required by law. I did my duty & you're damn fortunate I did. It protected the rule of law & resulted in your exoneration. Your personal feelings don't dictate who Alabama picks as their senator, the people of Alabama do," said Sessions in his own tweet.

The worm Sessions should have retired and kept his mouth shut.
I’m not prepared to declare Sessions as being any kind of traitor or bum.I’m inclined to believe that as AG he was just in over his head and was getting advice from Swamp Creatures who were,in fact,traitors...bums...crooks.
All gop senators are good for are attacking republicans. They are loathsome creatures.
Some people are aware of what went on in the Obama White House and continues to this day to do anything to prevent tge American people to have a president they can trust to at least keep the country from going full tyrannical communist
And his wimpy place in this mess.
He is particularly loathsome
Also, lest we forget...

Scoop: Besieged Sessions dines with Rosenstein, Francisco Tonight at 7:35pm (May 1, 2018), the Attorney General strode into a high-end Washington restaurant to dine with his deputy Rod Rosenstein and the Solicitor General Noel Francisco.
The symbolism was unmistakable: the three top ranking officials in the Justice Department appearing together in a show of solidarity on the same day Trump is publicly and privately raging about Sessions.
FUJS
What I want to know is the story behind his recusal. Who are the deepstaters who pressured him to do so and who are the legal consultants he checked with.
And Rod Rosenstein is still a weasel.
Sessions let them wreak havoc on the presidents first term. Also by recusing himself for no reason he allowed the Dems to paint the picture that president trump had something to hide in regards to Russia. Nancy pelosi is speaker for the house because Jeff sessions didnt know what the frig he was doing.
Jeff sure has energy when it comes to taking our side to
task.
He’s actually running on his record *as* AG, though. He thinks he did the bestest job evar. So, no. He’s the Evil Keebler Elf and you’re just making excuses.
We've seen irrefutable evidence that during Osama Obama's Presidency there were more than a few "Captain Taylors" willing to do their Party's bidding regardless of any Geneva Convention that might exist.Rod Rosenstein being just one of them.
Al Franken set him up at his confirmation hearing.

So explain any reasonable justification he had for not resigning long, long after it was clear the President was extremely displeased with him as AG.
If he had any honor, he would have resigned rather than recused himself and caused our country to go through two years of hell.
He didn’t - so he hasn’t.
Al Franken set him up at his confirmation hearing.
He should have resigned the day after
Once you got set up by freaken AL Franken of all people, you aint that bright
Correct, when Sessions walked into DOJ building, he was surrounded by all Obama leftovers, and Sessions likes to get along. Look at his career in senate. He was never a firebrand senator. Can anyone name some conservative significant legislation initiated by him and bearing his name? I can’t. He was a reliable conservative vote but a back-bencher. He never was executive of a large outfit.
As you correctly said, he was over his head as AG.
The cherry on top.
Go to Hell, Jeff.
I’m thinking Sessions should be happy Trump isn’t pummeling him for real. LOL
Sessions recusing himself and letting the deepsters run rampant was a dereliction of duty of the highest order. It’s like the Captain of a ship turning his back on the fact that his crew has mutinied against the United States and is really fighting for the enemy.
Jeff Sessions was a good Senator. But a very bad AG.
He recused himself over a hoax.
His time has come and gone.
He should relax and enjoy his retirement.
Maybe grow some watermelons in his back yard.
Sessions claims it was “required by law” that he recuse himself but nobody bats an eye when Eric Holder doesn’t recuse himself during Fast and Furious, or any of the other REAL scandals. Looks like it is only “required by law” for Republican Attorney Generals to recuse. Bullshit.
