For the second time since the COVID-19 pandemic became a daily battle between disease control and civil liberties, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has taken to Twitter to criticize the peaceful assembly of Jews in a city that boasts over a million Jewish residents.
This time, de Blasio specifically targeted children meeting at a yeshiva, an Orthodox Jewish elementary or secondary school.
Just a few weeks ago, the mayor slammed his citys Jewish community for gathering to grieve at a large funeral for a beloved rabbi.
Writing for The Daily Signal, I said de Blasios behavior was un-American and unconstitutional. His tweet Monday is not much different, and unfortunate on several fronts.
For starters, New York City was undoubtedly the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic and two boroughs with a significant Jewish population, Brooklyn and Queens, were the hardest hit by the disease.

Oy, vey!
I wonder if it will cost him votes.
It should, but I doubt it.
1936 Germany rises up again.
So long as most liberal Jews believe that America is the ‘promised land’ from God, it won’t cost him any votes.
He could be accused of being anti-semitic.
I will go with either closet racist or anti-semitic OR BOTH.
Children are the least susceptible to the disease, there is no reason for their school to be cancelled.
Not only that; but, as long as they still labor under the delusion that dems have their backs it will get worse.
It makes me angry that only 24% of Jews voted for Trump. I voted for him in the Michigan primary (crucial) and the narrow 10,400 vote Michigan election victory (crucial).
The Jews not in the 24% include comedians, film industry people, various types of gay or other deviants and large numbers of people who don't really care about or worship God. Observant Jews are largely pro-Trump.
That's the Jewish crowd who believe what their mommies told them when they sat on the floor at their feet as pre-schoolers "The Dems care about the little guy and the GOP is just for big business. Vote Dem, little one." So they STILL do. Idiots.
Must be thinking of all those Middle-Eastern-Death-Cult votes.
Cut to the chase, Burgermeister Wilhelm. Just put gold Stars of David on their upper arms.
As careful as people want to be and were, especially at the beginning, urban life is hardly conducive to an eternal quarantine and New York City is hardly a model of restraint: Residents simply were not going to be physically, mentally, or spiritually able or willing to be locked down forever.
Yet de Blasio fails to direct his ire at the crowds of young people gathering at a park or outside restaurants or in the city streets. Instead, the mayor consistently targets the Jewish people...
How is a crowd of 60-plus young people studying Jewish texts at a school any more of a public nuisance than crowds at Prospect Park? The answer, of course, is that they are not.
I won't call him "anti-Semitic," since Arabs are Semetic as well. I will, however, call him a Jew-hater. He's a hard-core leftist, and a core belief of hard-core leftists is hatred of Jews.
For instance, the Soviet Union's Communist Party, though they hated and oppressed Jews, also refused to allow Jews to emigrate, and often jailed Jews who expressed an interest in leaving the Soviet Union.
Mark
Warren ‘Kaiser’ Wilhelm. Is it hereditary?
Keep voting Democrat.
Hi.
What do Germans have against the Jewish people?
Sheesh.
Oh, what do the Democrats have against the Jewish people?
5.56mm
Vilhelm will take care of it.
These don't.
All nys schools are closed. Catholic schools closed. They just refuse to follow rules. They are special.
And yet felons are released from prison because they might get the virus while in prison; I thought prison contraband rules would prevent that.
