Type 1 diabetics are more likely to die of Covid-19 than those with type 2, according to NHS research confirming that diabetes significantly increases coronavirus sufferers risk of dying.
Almost one in three of all deaths from coronavirus among people in hospital in England during the pandemic have been associated with diabetes, according to the study.
People with type 1 diabetes the autoimmune form of the disease are three-and-a-half times more likely to die if they catch Covid-19 than non-diabetics, while type 2 diabetics those with the form closely linked to being overweight are twice as likely to die as non-diabetics. Nine out of 10 diabetics have type 2, and many are obese.
Age, however, is the biggest determining risk factor for death among diabetics with either form of the disease who get Covid-19. Under-40s have a very low risk compared with those over 40, and especially compared with older people, according to new findings collated by NHS England. People with type 1 diabetes, which is usually diagnosed in childhood, tend to be younger than those with type 2.

Interesting. There are several possible reasons for diabetics being more susceptible, but one should not disregard the possibility that the increased risk is related to the noted impaired zinc metabolism in both DM1 and DM2 patients.
So everyone over 40 should now stay home????
Notice the moving goal posts????
Then again... Maybe they died because in all the confusion of a Covid-19 ICU they forgot to give them their daily doses of insulin... Oops!
The man was in the hospital for a week. She would go in and check on him. They weren't giving him his regular doses!
“Why aren't you giving him his standard doses!?”
“I'm sorry ma’am, the hospital has it's own procedures.”
My wife contacted his main doctor and a couple of specialists - to no avail to changing the hospital’s protocol. And then the same issues for two weeks at an extended care place.
They were messing around with his doses and taking blood tests for weeks afterwards to get him back on track.
Makes a lot of sense since autoimmune disorders mean a weak immune system.
In this case, it is diabetics over 40, not the general population.
“Nine out of 10 diabetics have type 2, and many are obese.”
“So far during the pandemic, 7,466 people who died in hospital in England had type 2 diabetes and 365 had type 1.”
This seems to contradict the article. So 7831 diabetics, total, died of the virus, but less than 5% of them were Type 1. Why isn’t the percentage of Type 1’s at least 10%, or even closer to 20%, as the claims in the article imply?
Type 1 diabetics are more likely to die of everything than Type 2. It is the much worse disease.
Those with Type I have a short life expectancy. It’s nasty stuff.
WHEWW!!! A reprieve from the NHS for TYPE2s.
