#BREAKING: Graham announces vote on subpoena for Comey, Obama-era intel officials
The Hill ^ | 05/18/20 07:18 PM EDT | BY ALEXANDER BOLTON

Posted on 05/18/2020 4:26:00 PM PDT by RandFan

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) announced Monday evening that his panel will vote June 4 on a subpoena authorization to review documents and communications and solicit testimony from an array of senior Obama-era officials, including former FBI Director James Comey.

Graham announced in a press release that the subpoena vote will take place as part of his panel’s investigation into “FISA abuse” and the FBI probe “Crossfire Hurricane,” which investigated contacts between Trump advisers and Russian officials during the 2016 presidential election.

The subpoenas will cover “documents, communications and testimony from witnesses” including Comey, former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe, former Director of National Intelligence (DNI) James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan.

Under Senate Judiciary Committee rules, the chairman cannot unilaterally issue a subpoena and must either receive the consent of the ranking member, in this case Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), or secure a majority committee vote.

Graham and Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) are spearheading Senate Republicans’ investigation into whether the FBI’s probe of the Trump campaign in 2016, which later evolved into former special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of possible collusion between Trump advisers and Russian officials, was politically motivated.

Republicans last week touted a declassified National Security Agency document released by acting DNI Richard Grenell showing that 39 former senior Obama administration officials — including Comey, Clapper and Brennan — requested authority to know the identity of an American individual whose conversations with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak were intercepted by U.S. intelligence.

That official turned out to be former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Flynn later pleaded guilt to charges of lying to federal investigators, but the Justice Department made headlines earlier this month when it announced it would drop the case against him, arguing agents had botched the matter and it was unclear if the charges could be proven.

Graham has said he is interested in investigating the unmasking of Flynn as well as the genesis of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation into Trump’s campaign.

His committee on Monday said it would seek to review documents and communications related to Crossfire Hurricane and the receipt and analysis of reports prepared by former British intelligence official Christopher Steele, who was at one time employed by a law firm on behalf of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee. Steele’s report was later provided to the FBI, which was already investigating the Trump campaign’s contacts with Russian officials.

Graham announced the subpoena authorization will first be listed on the agenda for the committee’s executive business meeting on May 21 and the committee will vote on the subpoena authorization at its June 4 executive business meeting.

“requested authority to know the identity of an American individual whose conversations with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak were intercepted by U.S. intelligence.
That official turned out to be former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn.”

Total 100% USDA Prime bullshit. They were spying on Flynn and when he spoke to Kislyak after the election, they knew they could weaponize his normal contact as “proof” he was a Russian asset and remove him from the Trump administration. This was so as Nat Security Advisor, he would have discovered they had been spying on the campaign for over a year.

What a crock! The Dept of Injustice and the Federal Bureau of Injustice didn't "botch" the Flynn case.

They committed crimes themselves while trying to frame General Flynn, they lied to the courts, they suborned perjury, they withheld evidence, and engaged in gross prosecutorial misconduct.

They also were involved in a treasonous coup d'état against President Trump and our government.

"Botched" my ear.

Official Washington and the media will never admit the truth.

They will ignore them, Graham and Johnson will talk about contempt of Congress, and nothing will happen.

Another one? These threads are getting obnoxious. They bitch that nothing's going to happen, the exact thing happens that they said wouldn't, and they move the goalposts so they can continue bitching.

I think they just like to bitch.

Its their andrenochrome.

The way I heard the AG say it, what happened was abhorrent;
we’re going to get to the bottom of it;
and we’re not going to hold Obama and Biden accountable.

We’ve already gotten to the bottom of it, and the bottom is Obama and Biden.

LG will also “get to the bottom of it” in a few weeks, that is, unless some other entity begins an investigation; in which case LG will have to wait his turn, as he’s been doing for years already.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Your reply is correct, but most here wont be satisfied with that.

The declassified and now released memo makes all the difference. Before hand, any senate panel inquiry would be, and would be viewed as, fishing. Additionally, it could have been viewed as interference into the Durham investigation of events. Now with the memo release, the evidence justifying the subpoena is plain for all to see.

Dont get me wrong. I dont see anything coming from any congressional inquiry. The only hope of seeing perp walks comes from Durham. Congressional inquiries only work against republicans.

I stopped reading when I saw June 4. JUNE 4th?

Just more kicking the can down the street.

This tells me Lindsey is not serious about this and just posturing, as usual.

Anyway, I'm thankful for Trump being president and looking forward to his re-election.

Why the he## is everything done in 2 week increments. The “return to normal” phase are in 2 week segments. Linda hasn’t done anything in his capacity as senate judiciary chairman!

Thanks. I mean how many of these hearings did we all watch during the Russia congressional probes and a question was asked and we hear “that is classified information” next question answer “that is classified information”, etc, etc.

Well Comey can’t hide behind that line anymore like he did before. All Comey’s files related to the Russia prob have been declassified. Now is the best time to grill him.
