A tourist from New York was arrested in Hawaii after he posted beach pictures on Instagram when he was supposed to be in quarantine.
The 23-year-old man was arrested for violating Hawaiis mandatory 14-day quarantine rule and for unsworn falsification to authority, the Hawaii governors office said in a statement.
In an effort to stop the spread of the virus, the state requires travelers to the islands to self-quarantine for 14 days, without leaving their hotel room or residence. They are required to fill out a document acknowledging that violating the quarantine is a criminal offense punishable by a $5,000 fine and up to a year in prison, according to the states transportation department.
The state has extended the mandatory quarantine through the end of June, Gov. David Ige said in an online question and answer session.
Many visitors, including a newlywed couple on their honeymoon, have been arrested for ignoring the states quarantine orders.

I was there almost two yrs (1970-72) and have zero desire to see the islands again. I think the governor there knows they can never get put of this fiscal quagmire and is doing what other blue state govs are doing and tank their states in hope of a bailout. Wouldn’t give them a dime.
Yep...We knew 4 people over the years who moved there. To the best of my memory, none of them lasted over 4 years and all are now living back on the U.S. mainland.
Im sure that the ACLU will take this mans case. Not.
Has the wonderful ACLU taken any cases where a state, county/city violated and shredded the constitution rights of any citizen where Covid-19 was involved?
Even better, he rode public transportation.
I hope they keep this guy under lock and key until its confirmed he's not infected.
The ACLU is taking up cases to release prisoners and keep illegal aliens from being deported.
THAT is their CV-19 response according to their own website.
Quarantine?
Not so much THIS time around.
So you’re saying this guy should have brought a gun on the plane, willfully broken an agreement he signed on vacation, and shot the cops as they took him into custody for breaking said agreement? That’s why we have the 2A???
we have a 2A to protect ourselves families and communities form arbitrary denials of our liberties, yes
Good.
Typical NY’er
Not sure why a federal court hasnt been called in to stop this. Seems to violate the Constitution.
No comment on whether it is right or lawful to have this quarantine in place, but: another fool busted through social media posting. They should call the fine a “stupid tax.”
Id say I photoshopped it and I wasnt really there.
"Kill a Hoale Day" hasn't been a thing outside K-12 schools for many decades, and even there it isn't much any more. Kids are mean, go figure. Hawaii is like anywhere else. Go into the wrong part of town and you might get your ass kicked or worse, 365 days a year.
Everyone cheered when Trump shut down travel from Wuhan, but when Hawaii, with the 2nd lowest infection rate of all 50 states, tells a guy from the most infected state in the country to abide by the quarantine agreement he signed and knew about before he ever boarded a plane, that's bad. The state of Hawaii is literally telling tourists to postpone their trip.
Texas has a quarantine policy for travelers.
Alaska has a quarantine policy for travelers.
Montana has a quarantine policy for travelers.
Etc, etc.
Other states, Red and Blue, are asking people from infected areas to stay away.
“The state of Hawaii is literally telling tourists to postpone their trip.”
Even if I wanted to go to Hawaii, I wouldn’t go now.
The guy was in quarantine — if infected (and he doesn’t know he isn’t) he could be responsible for a lot of death and suffering.
Hawaiian statehood was a mistake.
Nor would I, and I’ve was thinking about a trip back to Maui this year to see some friends and do a little diving and fishing. Maybe next year. This year, I’ll be staying local and hitting the Sierras.
Self busted. Why anyone puts stuff on social media these days is beyond reasoning. Just stupid.
I trust millions of people choose to never visit Hawaii again. I will never step foot on that island again if I can help it.
JoMa
The Sierras are very nice.
My god what a circus this has become.
