Well, they might have looked at the two congressional elections which went against Democrats yesterday and sensed that a wave was building against them.
Perhaps they had internal polls that reflected what the CNN poll is telling us.

A CNN poll published Wednesday shows President Trump with a seven-point lead over Joe Biden in several battleground states – but the network was accused of burying its own findings.
A review of transcripts found that only one CNN program on Wednesday mentioned the poll of registered voters that indicating 52 percent favor Trump, as opposed to 45 percent for Biden, in key battleground states.

Our two Congressional wins in (gasp) California and Democrat Wisconsin was strengthened
by Trump's slaughter of Biden in a presidential primary vote. Three for three aint bad.
