April retail sales sank by 16.4 percent to their lowest level on record, as stores and restaurants felt the full weight of a month of coronavirus closures.

The monthly sales data, which measures spending at places such as gas stations, restaurants, bars, and stores, was released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of the Census.

The number was worse than economists had been anticipating, with most having forecast a 12 percent drop.

By comparison, March sales were down by 8.3 percent, which was at that time the worst decline since records began in 1992.

Be careful about media reported percentages and numbers on anything regarding the economy.......the Dems are rolling commercials blaming Trump for the economy and so the media will roll with them with all sorts of doomsday reporting.
Keeping the people “Afraid” to spend as well.

If true, we’re facing some serious economic issues. The effort to recover those losses is going to cost someone dearly, there’s no way around it. I’ve never seen government absorb that cost over the long-term. Businesses can NOT absorb that cost and remain solvent. So, who does that leave to be left holding the bag?

Likely liability fears.

Something Congress could and should have dealt with months ago.

But yet, Amazon sales have rocketed through the roof. No wonder I’ve seen Amazon install their Amazon Lockers at many more locations in the Sacramento, CA area.

Yes. Looks like many political/regulator folks will inevitably be stepping down a notch or two.

I’ve ordered lots of good things online from smarter nearby independent retailers for outdoor recreation, home security systems, other personal security items, gardening, etc. All stocked up since early January on necessities.

Or perhaps the business owner has made the individual choice not to because they wish to prioritize slowing the spread of the virus over their profits.

Perhaps all these nursing home patients caught the Chicom flu in Ross. I doubt it.

These are corporate stores packed to the roof with Chicom goods that are not reopening. I can assure you they care not at all about you, me and freedom.

So far no big ticket items, what is there is chinese made. I won’t buy it. Not even grocery sales, prices higher than a month ago and still NO TP. 1 elderly man asked where is the TP confused that all that was on the isle was a few boxes of Facial tissue. I told him that was your New TP.

I need a new up right garage friendly freezer for stocking frozen food. Must be USA Made. GE merged with a Chinese firm. I want country of origin on food.

In looking for that Up right freezer the most I have seen marked down and they were last year’s models was $100. Not enough to entice a Senior watching every penny to purchase.

Not even the Navy exchange and they will be beginning of 2019 inventory.

Destroy all businesses.

Leave the mega corporations which will be an arm of the state.

To the surprise of no one. Funny what happens when stores are forced to close to flatten the curve which has morphed into find the cure. It’s all BS.

Democrats are happy, 36 million more unemployed, retail sales down 16%, their government checks are still coming. Life is good for them.

Lockdown forever is the Dem slogan, communism is the answer!

They either can’t get their workers to come in, are already bankrupt, or can’t afford payroll till people come out like before
