Psychology, conflicting rules, misinformation and anxiety fueling bad behavior and violence, experts say

As a culture war rages across the nation over whether to wear protective masks, closer to home the battle is spilling over into store aisles and shopping center parking lots with alarming frequency — and at times violent consequences.

Los Angeles police this week announced the arrest of two brothers who allegedly assaulted store employees and a security guard who attempted to escort them from a Target in Van Nuys for refusing to wear masks. ...

Even an N-95 mask isn't a guarantee.

But masks of all types do reduce by varying amounts the amount of particles put into the air, and the amount of particles breathed in.

Just reducing the number of particles that you breathe in can reduce the severity of the disease you get. Fewer particles gives your system more time to ramp up defenses.

“They are expose to warm, wet conditions which is exactly the kind of conditions that cause germ growth to explode. “

yeah, they get real sour smelling real quick ... we hang ours outside in bright sunlight when not in use and that does a real good job of freshening them ...

Went out today. About 70% of the people were wearing masks. I did not.
You want to wear one? Fine.
But realize that the rest of us are not into virtue signaling.

I've gone out EVERY DAY. My usual markets are open and I buy ALMOST like I buy every day. I wear a mask when I go INSIDE because I couldn't enter a market without one.
But I sure as H-E-double hockey sticks DON'T wear it outside or in my car. STUPIDITY!

I dont wear masks. If I ever get sick you can shame me.

How do you know you're not asymptomatic and been spreading the disease around for the last 14 days. You might have already sickened hundreds of people and possibly even killed a few.

/shaming mode off

I did have a lady come up to me in Sam's Club and congratulate me on not being a fraidy cat.

I wore my mask in the areas where they were required. I have respect the conditions other people put on being allowed admission on to their property.

My husband was accosted by a little old lady at Starbucks who demanded to know why he wasn’t wearing one. The look he gave her would curdle milk so she didn’t push it. Had she asked me, I would have told her if she was that concerned she shouldn’t be out in public.

“They don’t realize he has enough trouble breathing without a mask on and now thinks he needs to wear one while walking.”

indeed ... i have asthma and using a mask makes it hard for me to breath, so i just wear it on my chin, daring anyone to reproach me ... it also helps with any possible reproaches that i wrote

MAGA
Mask

on it in wide indelible ink ...

plus i dress unconventionally and probably look somewhat like a crazy ol’ coot ... the kind that most will think twice about F-ing with ...

I said germs for a reason. Germs are bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa.

MOST of us have fairly good immune systems or we wouldn't still be alive. So, all those little microbes are welcome to visit me for a few minutes, then my immune system will SICK'EM then KICK'EM out!

I haven't and won't wear a mask unless I need to enter a store that requires one.

"But realize that the rest of us are not into virtue signaling."

It has nothing to do with "virtue signalling" and everything to do with a very simple, very effective means of protecting yourself AND OTHER PEOPLE.

All the anti-mask hoopla is playing directly into the hands of the Chinese commies.

Yep.

Starbucks is not a place she HAD to go. And I say that as someone who gives thanks for all caffeine deliver systems on a daily basis.

Doctors/nurses do not want to exhale their usually benign personal flora into an open wound. Dentists do not want to do the same into your open mouth,..

Exactly!!! So we agree that masks prevent at least some of the particles from entering the air.

No one knows if they have the virus and are asymptomatic. So if everyone wears a mask they aren't putting as many particles into the air.

That was my point. This busybody may have thought she was doing a good deed but is actually doing harm. It’s a cotton mask which provides no protection but. is he thinks he needs to wear it to not hurt her feelings. People need to mind their own damn business

True on the N95s although most people if they get one don’t wear them appropriately. I’m good for about 15 min tops. Then add a full face shield and it’s even more difficult/

I only wore a mask one time and that was to get a haircut.

I live in the free state of Georgia and we do not play rat games.

I have only a couple of times had people look at me strangely and then stood up and strong and what is your problem? And then repeated my self for clarity.

I did have one guy call the police on me. I walked right them and said ‘Hey officer, is there a problem”? He said No.

Stand up for your rights or fall for tyranny.

“The majority of shoppers at another grocery store I visited after Sprouts had masks on. Go figure.”

lots of no-mask-wearing in hardware stores, lumber yards and parts departments in john deere dealerships ...
