Phil Kerpen, the president of the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, has been compiling data on nursing home deaths by state that have been attributed to the coronavirus, and theres a lot of interesting things we can see in the data about the coronavirus.
I took a look at the data to see what I could see.
First, it should be noted that the sources for the data by state vary. Some come from government sources, others from media, and are updated at different intervals. Twelve states arent including nursing home deaths in their reporting. Some data, like that from New York, is considered bad because it excludes nursing home patients who die in a hospital. Nevertheless, the data compiled by Kerpen tells us a lot.
For starters, there is a huge range in the rate of coronavirus deaths in nursing homes of the 39 states we have data from. Minnesota tops the list with 81.3 percent of 534 deaths, while Nevada comes in at the bottom with 21.5 percent of 293 deaths in the state. If we look at just the states that have reported over 1,000 total coronavirus deaths, that range tightens, with Pennsylvania topping the list with 68 percent of 3,616 coronavirus deaths coming from the nursing home population. Indiana comes in at the bottom with 34.6 percent of 1,214 deaths coming from the nursing home population.
Of the 39 states (and Washington D.C.) that are reporting nursing home deaths, 19 states attribute more than half of their coronavirus deaths to the nursing home population.
But, what does that mean? A little context is necessary. How much of our population is made up of nursing home residents? There are about 1.4 to 1.5 million people living in nursing homes,

For your interest.
This is such BS what the hell is going on in nursing homes, I am starting to believe this is being done deliberately WHY is this virus getting into nursing homes WHY???
Have you ever been to a nursing home/assisted living facility recently? I have, just before this all started. If it werent for those places half of the patients would already have been dead.
Every resident is already elderly and damned near 100% have serious health issues that would be lethal without daily specialized care. Theyre where chronically ill old people go to die.
Why is everyone so surprised at this?

4 deep breaths bro, 4 deep breaths
Have you heard any politicians or policy wonks bemoaning the "pending Social Security crisis" or the "future Medicare crisis" this year?
I guess they found their Final Solution.
But keep everyone locked up to preserve an illusion of "caring about the 'most vulnerable'".
That’s not fair.
Only some of those nursing home residents were staggering.
Way to stereotype.
Based on the stats given on the PA state website, our county has 83% of deaths associated with nursing homes. Horrible.
Highlights the reason for testing and number infected as the criteria for re-opening is false. The only numbers that mean anything are number hopitalized and number that died from the virus. Yes, you can do blood tests to determine if the patient died of the virus. Of those hospitalized, only those who do not recover (die) really mean anything. Careful track should be kept of the percentage of those hospitalized that recover/die to determine if treatments are effective.
Just tighten your security mask, Linus.
(Unless you notice that NOBODY has died from the common flu this year.....)
Plus, if you look at the above map something else hits you... pretty quick... It’s the northern half of the country that accounts for 60-70% of the deaths.
That’s a pretty striking correlation to the Vitamin D hypothesis.
So if you are getting up there, make sure you get your Vitamin D and make sure you DO NOT do it in a nursing home!
Sheltering and cowering in place can kill you and your loved ones!:
Heather Mac Donald, the Thomas W. Smith Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, writing in the Hill:
On Wednesday, Cuomo announced the shocking news that 84 percent of all hospital admissions were either people sheltering at home or nursing home residents. He shouldnt have been surprised. The risk of coronavirus infection occurs overwhelmingly indoors. Researchers in China identified only one outdoor outbreak of infection among over a thousand cases studied.
Most transmissions occurred at home, rendering the close-down-all-businesses-and-shelter-in-place rule contraindicated.

Study reveals that vitamin D likely to reduce serious coronavirus complications:
Remember locking and cowering down at home or in a nursing home eliminates getting your vitamin D, natures way by going outside and walking and talking to your neighbors.
Vitamin D is produced in the skin from UVB sunlight exposure and is transported to the liver and then the kidney where it is changed into an active hormone that increases calcium transport from food in the gut and ensures calcium is adequate to keep the skeleton strong and free of osteoporosis.
The study found that vitamin D can also support the immune system through a number of immune pathways involved in fighting SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.

It's getting everywhere, but not everyone is equally vulnerable to it. Healthier and younger people generally have better immunity and they are fighting the virus more effectively than old and ill people. There really isn't anything new about this. Flu and other viral diseases are rough on people who are in frail health.
Target-rich environments.
That is exactly why my 90 year old mom lives in my home I would NEVER put her in one of those places, I am very blessed she doesnt have dementia!!
“Based on the stats given on the PA state website, our county has 83% of deaths associated with nursing homes. Horrible.”
Predictable, and utterly worse: 100% PREVENTABLE:
Hospitals in the middle of a pandemic are not going to use a finite supply of resources on people in their 80s and 90s. So when the elderly come in to the ER with coronavirus-like issues, their symptoms are treated and they are sent back to the nursing facilities without being tested for covid. Once the nurses and caregivers get it, they are tested and then the nursing home residents have to be tested. But by this time, the virus is spreading like wild fire. The result is many deaths in the nursing home.
Another HUGE reason to end the lockdown.
