Hydroxychloroquine – Number Of Covid-19 Prescriptions Explodes In France
Forbes ^ | 05/10/2020 | Alex Ledsom

Despite the warnings around taking hydroxychloroquine to combat the symptoms of COVID-19, prescriptions in France have increased by as much as 7,000% in certain parts of the country since the pandemic began.

As reported by La Provence, a study looking at the 466 million French prescriptions written since the pandemic began in France, show a huge spike in doctors prescribing the drug. In the last week of March, for instance, over 10,000 people were prescribed hydroxychloroquine in Marseille alone.

In France and the U.S., the use of hydroxychloroquine has been fraught between those who think the risks are small enough to warrant widespread use and those who think that more research is required before widespread prescription.

Following research conducted in China, a French doctor, Didier Raoult–head of the IHU, the Institute of Infectious Diseases in Marseille–claimed at the beginning of March that he had successfully treated patients suffering from coronavirus with the drug. Hydroxychloroquine is an anti-malarial drug also used to treat people suffering from lupus. It is sold under its trader name of Plaquénil in France.

Shortly afterwards, President Trump, tweeted the same news, that a combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin could work with patients. The latter is an anti-bacterial drug, given in tandem, to eliminate the risks of bacterial infection.

Health professionals were quick to point out that no one should be using the drug without further research showing clear evidence that the drugs do work under a peer-reviewed clinical trial. Dr Anthony Fauci, Trump’s advisor downplayed the drug’s impacts as purely “anecdotal” and others issued warnings that the drug can cause severe health impacts if taken in an unsupervised capacity, such as heart problems.

Dr. Didier Raoult, biologist and professor of microbiology and director of IHU, Marseille, France.

Before the pandemic, an average of 50 prescriptions were written each day in Marseille for hydroxychloroquine. The day after Didier Raoult announced his findings in Marseille, this had jumped to 450 per day. On March 18th, that figure had spiked again and there were 5,000 prescriptions in just one day across the whole of France.

The research authors believe that 41,000 people were given the drug between March 16 and April 19.

[[Despite the warnings around taking hydroxychloroquine to combat the symptoms of COVID-19]]

Warnings? Plenty of Drugs come with very serious warnings- HCQ comes with very mild warnings for most cases of possible symptoms-

The left just can’t stop with the propaganda-

It’s all about 1 billion vaccines at 100$ for healthy idiots

Not 3$. Medication that treats the sick

The vaccine industry is 100 billion or more. They are profit driven and do gooders from hell. Relying on Jonas Salks cure for small
Pox. Which has been around 150000 years and was easy to knock off cause it doesn’t change and us very big

Not to mention there is research dating back to 2005 where it was used to treat SARS-Cov-1 with positive results. Them acting like it something President Trump just came up with out of the blue is pure dishonesty.

The ‘research authors’ ‘believe’? Not ‘Know from their research”?

also- how many people survived because of the HCQ? TDS Forbes leaves that out - can’t be showing how successful and safe the drugs really are-

Good. The American left will continue to oppose this drug because DJT suggested it might be a treatment.

Unsupervised capacity? It's a friggin prescription drug. Whatever doctor prescribes it to you would be the one supervising.

In France and the U.S., the use of hydroxychloroquine has been fraught between those who think the risks are small enough to warrant widespread use and those who think that more research is required before widespread prescription.

We keep reading about the risks and need for more research per hydroxychloroquine.

This drug has been in use since 1955. Don't we already know the risks associated with this drug? Obviosuly, the answer is yes. re: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroxychloroquine

So, the questions becomes, is this drug an effective prophylactic/treatment against Covid-19. At this time, worldwide anecdotal evidence shows hydroxychloroquine as an effective prophylactic/treatment against Covid-19.

So, why is this drug marginalized and rejected by Fauci and others in the U.S. medical/research industrial complex? I believe the answer is a combination of money and politics (TDS). Hydroxychloroquine is off patent and costs pennies per dose. Remdesivir was patented in 2017 by Gilead; it will go off patent in 2037. re: https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/04/who-owns-remdesivir-how-much-can-they-make-and-how-much-does-it-cost/

At this time, Gilead is providing 1.5 million individual doses of remdesivir "for compassionate use." What they will charge after this supply is exhausted is anyone's guess. They have a monopoly on the drug.

Last week, I texted my physician asking him if he'd prescribe hydroxychloroquine, if a patient diagnosed with Covid-19 specifically asks for it. Still waiting for his reply. If he says no, I will be shopping for a Doc who would prescribe hydroxychloroquine if the patient requests it. Just being proactive.

RE: This drug has been in use since 1955. Don’t we already know the risks associated with this drug? Obviosuly, the answer is yes.

I think the risk is DOSAGE dependent.

How large is the dosage Covid-19 patients are given compared to Lupus patients?

Covid-19 patients are given HCQ for at most, three weeks On average, it is 5 to 6 days.

Lupus patients use the drug for YEARS !

A Chinese lab, which happens to be none other than the suspicious, Wuhan Institute of Virology , also has a shared patent agreement with Gilead. We never get away from China to make the things we need.

Well, all things being equal, the notion of the double-blind peer reviewed research isn’t bad. Looking at the advances in medical science just in my lifetime is enough to convince me that we “got that one right”, in normal times.

These are not normal times. Practitioners, not scientists, around the world have seen clear signals in their own patients that the OCH/anti-biotic mix, possibly with the addition of zinc is helping patients across the board.

That’s not proof, but given the low risks of the treatment, it argues for its wide availability.

The problem in the US is that our garbage elites think any treatment would make Trump look good, and it would be better for them for thousands of their fellow Americans to needlessly suffer and die. That’s how they think about us: we’re expendable.

I’m generally trying to save my ire these days for the ChiComs, but when it comes to saving lives, I guess we have to be willing to engage domestic enemies as well.

One of our employees has lupus, and has been taking HCQ 200 mg daily for 10 years.

Says it changed her life and has never had any side effects.

Dr. Zelenko has made the same point: don’t give patients a dose of any substance at a level that is known to be toxic. How hard can that be to understand?

The left and some right do not want the answer to the crisis unless it conforms to political considerations along with monetary gains. They have no problem seeing people die and those alive live in agony and despair. I hate the left but even some on the left could unite with us concerning this.

“The study also noted that most people who were granted access to the drug across France were from higher socio-economic groups.”

People in the higher socio-economic groups are more likely to do their own research or have engaged in travel where they have previously taken the drug to prevent malarial infection. They are not afraid of the drug and I suspect that many have necessary close personal interaction and have chosen to take it as a prophylactic.
