Barr undercuts Mueller investigation as Trump cheers him on
Washington Post ^ | May 9, 2020 | Matt Zapotosky

If William P. Barr had been the first attorney general in the Trump administration, the special counsel investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election would have met an early end, President Trump said Friday.

“He would have stopped it immediately,” Trump declared in an appearance on Fox News.

Now, legal observers say, the country’s top law enforcement official seems to be giving his boss the next best thing: unwinding and discrediting the work done by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III.

Undercuts is a curious choice of words. Defeats or rebuts are better ones.

The Mueller investigation KNEW in August of 2017 there was NOTHING there.

They continued long enough so the GOP could throw the House to the Democrats in hopes of removing President Trump.

Hillary was never supposed to lose. The whole CIA/FBI spygate was designed and put in motion to charge Trump with crimes .......
after she won. Hillary and the team were going to destroy Donald Trump after she took office. When she lost,
they had no choice but to keep the game going. Sessions bailed and Mueller’s team was to finish the job.

The beastly Obama put the fix in early on-----the faked-up FISA's got them unusual surveillance techniques on Trump
....ones largely used to surveil terrorists. The entire billion dollar US intel apparat was at Hillary's disposal, the obedient media hers alone to manipulate.

For many, discrediting isn’t required. For others, it must be defended but most will realize ObamaGate is evil.

“Mueller was and is a senile, doddering fool who wasted whatever “cred” he built up as a Vietnam veteran and FBI Chief by allowing himself to be used as front man”

Reasonable. Plus everyone in the gang ‘knew’ that Hillary was going to win and their tracks would be covered.

You nailed it.

BTW, how does one undercut an investigation that turned up nothing??

Agree.
A lot if unnecessary pain and suffering for hundreds of people would have been avoided if Trump had appointed someone else as AG.
And I am speaking as someone who supported Sessions when he was nominated. Big mistake.

Well, there are about two month's time to get some indictments, arrests, fair trials, convictions, imprisonments and hangings - all of them - before the election season begins in earnest.

Don't worry though, "Trust The Plan. (TM)"

Anyone with any amount of common sense and honesty would say Mueller's work had no credibility for countless reasons. We don't need Barr to do it or be told by "legal observers" it is what Barr is doing - it is simply reality. It was a meritless, corrupt, and phony investigation. There is not just evidence to suggest this, but proof.

-- I thought the Mueller investigation was over. How can it be "undercut" after the fact? --

By noticing that it was an abuse of power against the president from the get-go. That there was no legitimate basis AT ALL to appoint a SC, that the basis was to hoiund him out of office on what SC (and Congress, and a cast of thousands) knew for a fact, was a lie.

As far as I know, the very appointment of a SC has not ever been found to be a coup attempt in itself. Usually SC is appointed to handle a credible allegation that actually has some basis in fact. Mueller's appontment doesn;t even have that fig leaf, and the DOJ is the entity pointing out that Team Mueller knew the basis for its existence was fraudulent.

These people need to be known by name for what they did, Mueller included and I don't care if he's a dimwit.

One more left-wing WaPo propagandist whines because his side’s corruption and criminality is actually being challenged and exposed by the US Attorney General. Well, BOO-HOO!!

“This year, when Barr personally intervened in the Stone case, all four career prosecutors assigned to the matter withdrew, with one leaving the government entirely.”

That is what you call addition by subtraction.
