The top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee demanded answers from Attorney General William Barr over the Justice Departments decision to drop criminal charges against President Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) said the outrageous move called for an immediate explanation. He added the House Judiciary Committee, which he chairs, would summon Barr to the Capitol as soon as possible, after a March hearing with the attorney general was postponed due to the pandemic.
Rest assured, we are going to reschedule that hearing, ASAP, and demand answers! Nadler said on Twitter.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Thursday its intent to drop the criminal case against Flynn, a former Trump national security adviser who had previously pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia during the presidential transition. Flynn later withdrew from his plea agreement.
Nadler said the DOJs move demonstrated the politicization of the top federal law enforcement agency under Trump.
Flynn PLEADED GUILTY to lying to investigators, Nadler also said on Twitter. The evidence against him is overwhelming. Now, a politicized DOJ is dropping the case.
Meanwhile, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, said the decision reflected the worst politicization of the Justice Department in its history.
Flynn pled guilty to lying to the FBI about his illicit Russian contacts. His lies do not now become truths, Schiff said in a tweet. This dismissal does not exonerate him. But it does incriminate Bill Barr.
In a court filing Thursday, the DOJ said newly uncovered FBI documents showed the investigation into Flynn was handled improperly and revealed that agents had misgivings about whether they believed Flynn had lied during his interview.
DOJ lawyers told the court that the FBI had initially moved to close the investigation in 2016 after finding a lack of evidence, but that the case remained open by mistake.
Flynn would later provide agents a description of a conversation he had with a Russian diplomat in the weeks before Trump's inauguration that prosecutors considered to be false and misleading, leading to Flynns guilty plea.
Some legal experts expressed dismay over the departments change in course.
It is highly unusual to dismiss a case after a defendant has pleaded guilty in open court, said Barbara McQuade, a law professor at Michigan University and former federal prosecutor. There is nothing in the public record to justify this dismissal.
Uh huh. Jerry the Waddler is so outraged he’s going to fly right back from his extended vacation to attend to the affair. Or maybe not.
Be careful of what you question rat, the case is coming for you dope.
But, I suppose Schitt and Nadless will make sure no witness is allowed to say that.
I don't see a scenario where Trump wins in 2020 and we don't win the House.
In 2016, with Trump on the ballot, we won the House 241-194, with the total popular vote being 63,173,815(R) 61,776,554(D)
We lost the House in 2018 because Democrats had better turnout 60,572,245(D) to 50,861,970(R). Notice, a LOT fewer Republicans showed up than in 2016.
In 2020, turnout will determine who gets all the marbles, as in 2016. Turnout will determine everything.
Boy, that's kinda Middle Ages. You put a guy on the rack, stretch him until he confesses, and then justify burning him at the stake on the basis of his confession. Because if he hadn't been guilty, he would have let himself be stretched until his arms were torn off.
Be VERY careful what you wish for, Democrats.
I have a feeling your explanation is coming, and right soon.
They are trying to get ahead of this. Schiff made several public statements that he had in his possession evidence that was was not circumstantial. He wrote the Dems response to Devin Nunes’ letter and both Schiff and Nadler were instrumental in Nunes being investigated by the House Ethics Committee.
Their house of cards is rapidly imploding.
Should subsequent indictments develop against FBI and/or Obama DOJ officials, they (Schiff and Nadler) could be sitting in a very precarious position. If the Republicans take back the House this year, you can just about guarantee Schiff’s eyes will bulge even more as he loses the chair of the Intelligence Committee back to Nunes.
NoNads is still around?
He needs to stay in self-isolation...you know, for his underlying conditions.
And....no thanks to Lyin Paul Ryan....who pretty much through in the towel on Republican races.
GO TO HELL NO NADS
There is a boatload of evidence pointing to gross malfeasance and prosecutorial abuse. This pinhead just refuses to read any of it so she can blather ignorant narratives.
Yeah, Bob. Get right on this, will ya?! You don’t want these “tough guys” coming after your arse now, do ya?
Amen. The dems motto very shortly will be E ERY MAN FOR HIMSELF
FO Jerry!!!! We want an explanation why he was set up in the first place and then coerced with the threat against his son .... you fat bastard!!!
Maybe Babs should go back to law school. Seems like the FBI and DOJ framed General Flynn and got caught. So sorry, yu LOSE!
Make Nadler the next one on the list. Go after him Barr, please!!!
Judge Nappy, the case was dismissed “WITH PREJUDICE” That means if can’t be relitigated. Shut up you, fool.
<><> The Demoblobs like Jumbo Jerry like to jiggle their jujubes...
Ask Nadler what he thinks about persecuting war heroes? They played the war hero card with that sniveling liar vindelman.
Lindsay Graham on Hannity just announced he would hold hearings in the Senate. Goosh, he must have 20 hearings on his calendar. Pretty soon he won’t have time to come to Hannity’s show and promise another hearing.
