The top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee demanded answers from Attorney General William Barr over the Justice Departments decision to drop criminal charges against President Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) said the outrageous move called for an immediate explanation. He added the House Judiciary Committee, which he chairs, would summon Barr to the Capitol as soon as possible, after a March hearing with the attorney general was postponed due to the pandemic.
Rest assured, we are going to reschedule that hearing, ASAP, and demand answers! Nadler said on Twitter.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Thursday its intent to drop the criminal case against Flynn, a former Trump national security adviser who had previously pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia during the presidential transition. Flynn later withdrew from his plea agreement.
Nadler said the DOJs move demonstrated the politicization of the top federal law enforcement agency under Trump.
Flynn PLEADED GUILTY to lying to investigators, Nadler also said on Twitter. The evidence against him is overwhelming. Now, a politicized DOJ is dropping the case.
Meanwhile, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, said the decision reflected the worst politicization of the Justice Department in its history.
Flynn pled guilty to lying to the FBI about his illicit Russian contacts. His lies do not now become truths, Schiff said in a tweet. This dismissal does not exonerate him. But it does incriminate Bill Barr.
In a court filing Thursday, the DOJ said newly uncovered FBI documents showed the investigation into Flynn was handled improperly and revealed that agents had misgivings about whether they believed Flynn had lied during his interview.
DOJ lawyers told the court that the FBI had initially moved to close the investigation in 2016 after finding a lack of evidence, but that the case remained open by mistake.
Flynn would later provide agents a description of a conversation he had with a Russian diplomat in the weeks before Trump's inauguration that prosecutors considered to be false and misleading, leading to Flynns guilty plea.
Some legal experts expressed dismay over the departments change in course.
It is highly unusual to dismiss a case after a defendant has pleaded guilty in open court, said Barbara McQuade, a law professor at Michigan University and former federal prosecutor. There is nothing in the public record to justify this dismissal.
Top, top, top, teen, teen, teen, mom, mom, mom. The garbage writing style of these propagandist bastards...
Here’s my explanation, Fat Jerry - “F You!”
It is highly unusual to dismiss a case after a defendant has pleaded guilty in open court, said Barbara McQuade, a law professor at Michigan University and former federal prosecutor. There is nothing in the public record to justify this dismissal.
...
McQuade was appointed by President Barack Obama and started her term as U.S. Attorney on January 4, 2010.
There never WAS a case, Congressman Nadler. The whole thing was nothing but smoke, and pretty noxious smoke at that.
Get this man a ventilator.
The DEMs are going to fight this all the way to Election Day and beyond if Trump is re-elected.
...
Not if they lose the House and Senate, too.
A/G Barr and President Trump need to beat Nadler and Schiff to the punch.
A Special Investigator needs to be empaneled to investigate the lies, the fraud and the criminal actions that the FBI and the Obama DOJ illegally took against General Mike Flynn.
Ahh, screw that. Even better idea: Arrest James B. Comey now. Today. On any number of relevant charges related to the crimes his agency committed against the General.
Just more proof Democrats will tell the truth only when it benefits them. Otherwise, default SOP is to lie all the time. Keep it up, you know your water carrying “news” outlets will spout the company line until low info citizens are stampeded to riot and burn down the country. Oh well...what the heck. Pukes.
Oopsie! Just like the time I forgot to close the garage door.
How silly of them.
Get this man a ventilator.
And a drool cup.
Yes, please explain. This will definitely backfire on these people. It’s not even a guess. It’s going to give Barr a platform to rip the crooks and it will get the soft Repukes in the Senate something they can repeat ad nausea that supports Trumps position from day one
Amen to that.
Dump the documents incriminating the Dems, Barr.
Theyre asking for it.
The DEMs aren’t losing the House in 2020. I would be more concerned about the GOP losing the Senate in 2020.
They will try to make the case that AG Barr is being swayed by his decision because of his allegiance to President Trump. Because Nadler thinks it, Barr must step down. Because I think Biden sexually assaulted Tara Reade, he should immediately drop out of the race. Come to think of it, I think Barr should initiate sexual assault charges against Biden. What’s the statute of limitations? Forget that. There are no limitations. I’m playing their game.
If she were to step down before the election you’d see another level of angry venom. One can only hope (steps down)
Got your explanation right here! .!.. ..!.
But if you must have reason, here you go. He was innocent. The charges were fake. It was an abuse of power to charge him. Any other questions? I’m sure these reasons hold no weight with you, so refer you to the first “explanation”.
The quote someone famous “These people are stupid”
Flynn PLEADED GUILTY to lying to investigators, Nadler also said on Twitter. The evidence against him is overwhelming. Now, a politicized DOJ is dropping the case.
He pled guilty because he got cornered into an FBI-led perjury trap and did it to save his son. People need to go down hard for this. The reaction of the left only reinforces the fact that we will never be able to reconcile or live in harmony with an abusive leftist population. This is not going to end well.
Barr to Nadler the Hutt & Barney Google:
Do you REALLY want me to divulge your criminal activities? We have the tapes.
