New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Thursday that no one in the state can be evicted for not paying rent due to the coronavirus until August 20. "New York State will extend the moratorium on evictions for those facing COVID-related hardship for an additional 60 days - until August 20," he tweeted.
"The No. 1 issue that people talk to me about probably is rent, and fear about being able to pay their rent, and this just takes that issue off the table until August 20," he said at his daily coronavirus briefing.
Cuomo also said officials will ban any late-payment fees and allow renters to use their security deposits as payment.
"Everyone is just making do, and everyone has hardships, et cetera," he said. "We just want to make sure that those people who are most vulnerable are protected."
Cuomo said he doesn't know what is going to happen two or three months down the road. "But I can tell you: Whatever happens, we will handle it at the time. And that's what we've been doing with this situation all along, literally in two-week increments."
He said the state is working on relief from banks for landlords.
"There is no doubt a tradeoff between the tenant and the landlord," he said. "We are helping the landlords also, but on a human level I don't want to see people and their children being evicted at this time, through no fault of their own."

There is going to be one hell of a deluge come August 20 / sept 20, whenever the sheriff comes.
I think it’s the pound sand thingy.
What about shop owners? Offices?
Those rents are pricey.
boy arrogance has no rental properties I assume he dont care. Just love the compassion he has for parents and children thrown in the streets much like the nursing home murders
And why would the banks want to pay the landlords?
Guessing the process for evicting people in New York is already months long and nothing can start until August. There are going to be a bunch of bankrupt landlords.
NYC has to be one of the worst cities on earth to own property. I grew up there and heard horror stories of it taking FIVE years to evict someone who doesn’t pay rent, this on top of the insane taxes. And even squatters have more rights than owners!!! There was a case I remember of this guy who moved into this old ladies place and she couldn’t get him out. He broke in and took residence, and even came and went and it took forever to get him out as they have “squatters laws”. In more sane cities it’s called freakin BREAKING AND ENTERING but not in the leftist cesspool of NYC!
Here’s another case I found...........

Look at this insanity............
“Believe it or not, squatters can claim to be your tenants if they manage to stay on your property for a set amount of time. It doesnt matter if breaking and entering was involved. If they are there for long enough, they can claim to have taken adverse possession of the unit or property. While it seems absurd, it is less strange than the fact that you have to go through the eviction process to get them out once theyve established adverse possession. Even stranger, if a squatter manages to take over an entire property and remain there uninterrupted for more than 10 years, they can claim ownership.”

Don’t think his dictatorship orders will stand court scrutiny.
Of course they do. They still owe all of the back rent. They just won’t be evicted for non-payment until September.
Do they have to pay taxes ???????
That said, if they ever tried some s**t like this, I'd have them out on their fkn asses August 21.
The question is Andy Pandy, are you still residing in your ex-girlfriend’s home in Westchester County as reported that you were in March of this year, or have you finally moved your ass back to the Governor’s Mansion in Albany? That house was put back up for sale earlier this year, but it hasn’t sold yet. So does this mean that Sandra Lee can’t evict you for non-payment of rent?
The sheriffs and the courts will be so backed up that it will take months to get an eviction even after August 20th. Then don’t forget he is already hinting that he will extend it again.
He said the state is working on relief from banks for landlords.
mean?
He’s just helping his lawyer friends who will be making money representing landlords and renters in the coming months. He’s likely getting a kickback from all of this. He’s no different than the Clintons, who never did anything unless it benefited their pockets.
Does he have the power to do that?
Gee whiz....Gov. Cuomo!!
Any other parts of the civil or criminal code that you want to set aside.
NY lives under the Rule of Whim.
He's the King. It's good to be the King!!
Amazing, we are witnessing the destruction of the US right before our eyes!
How does Aug 20 make any sense? Is there something in the statute like a 10 day notice or something? Why Aug 20, and not Aug 1 or Sept 1 or Aug 31?
Funny how Cuomo makes Hitler look like a true humanitarian.
