Samaritans Purse has no expectation of receiving a single penny for the weeks of work they did in Central Park to combat the coronavirus. But now New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is asking them to pay up.
Earlier this week, the Rev. Franklin Graham, president of the nonprofit organization, told Faithwire, Theyre the ones who called us originally, referring to officials with the Mount Sinai Health System in New York City. We didnt call them; they called us, he continued. And we agreed to go and we have not charged them one penny. All of our services have been paid by Gods people.
Samaritans Purse workers were on the ground, setting up a 68-bed field hospital right after receiving the call, and now theyre being held financially liable for their goodwill because, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), hes not in a position to provide any subsidies right now.
So even though New York lawmakers and hospital executives asked workers to come from out of state to help in the fight against the coronavirus, they will now have to pay state taxes even on income they might have made from their home state while they were temporarily living in New York, according to WPIX-TV.

There's nothing outrageous about this
Wait - so it's not Samaritan's Purse that would be charged taxes -it's the employees on income they made while in New York?
Then the headline is wrong. There is nothing wrong with this. You pay taxes where you earn the money, and your home state gives you a tax credit.
The outrage is foolish.
IMHO, MORE LIKE...
It actually is “outrageous”
Why not disclose this beforehand, if that was GreedyAss Huomo’s intention? Or the taxing authority of NYS and NYC
Furthermore, there will be a cost associated with compliance, complexity in allocating “income” to the home state and NY to both the individuals and SP
To me, it’s just a Big FU to Rev Graham and SP. Get out and oh, btw, pay taxes on the wages “earned’ while volunteering to get us out of this mess caused by NY and Commie China
Mr President, SLAM the hell outta Huomo. Commentators, do the same
Don’t go to or even through New York under any circumstances or some snitch will report your presence and you’ll get a tax bill. Rush claims they audit him every year even though he’s been gone for decades.
DEMOCRATS ARE SCUM!
I think it is the employees, who earned money while in New York. The outrage is ignorant.
“There is nothing outrageous about this”
Are you Andrew Cuomo’s brother Chris? Are you still in the basement?
Right. I didn’t even bother clicking on the story because the headline is outright FAKE NEWS.
Ummm... because it's been the law for years?
Stand down, for God's sake.
President Trump is fighting for America with ANTI-TRUMP RINOS and DEMOCRATS fighting against him.
The question should be...
WHERE IS THE CHURCH? NO COMMENT FROM THEM.
Its already started here in KS. 5 known cases filed by as many families for wrongful death, et al. against the long term care facilities.
You can't be that ignorant. Get the facts, for God's sake. The headline is FAKE NEWS.
Perhaps the other states might declare themselves as sanctuary states from NY tax collectors.
I've been in this position before -- both as an employee who worked in New York and as an employee who worked outside of New York for a NY-based company.
There’s nothing outrageous about this. If this was a problem for any of these “volunteers,” they really should have addressed it before they went to work in New York.
Somehow I doubt, that when volunteers were preparing to go to New York, that any of them were thinking of the tax consequences of the mission they were embarking upon. I’m sure none of them had any idea they would somehow owe New York state income taxes for their humanitarian gesture.
New York State an the city claim the employees of Samaritans Purse were paid while in New York City, so those employees owe income tax.
No kidding. New York State and city is that messed up.
Ugh, yes, outrage clickbait.
Ugh, yes, outrage clickbait.
FIDO, get back on the porch.
Samaritan’s Purse was a special case, and New York should pass a retroactive law exempting health care workers who VOLUNTEERED to assist them in their time of need!
UNGRATEFUL BASTARDS!
