Why Hospitals in NYC Have Abandoned Hydroxychloroquine

NEW YORK - President Donald Trump put hydroxychloroquine on the map by cheerleading for the drug before researchers could determine its effectiveness.

Now, it is all but disappearing as a treatment for COVID-19.

"We know now it probably doesn’t help much," said Dr. Thomas McGinn, Deputy Physician-In-Chief at Northwell Health. "We’re not recommending it as a baseline therapy anymore. It is only in a treatment protocol in a study that we’re recommending it."

Hospitals began using the drug early on in hopes it could calm the overactive immune response to COVID-19. But now that little proven benefit has been found, many doctors New York have moved on.

Just days ago, Mount Sinai changed course.

"As of last week, we stopped using hydroxychloroquine as a routine medication in our hospital based upon the cumulative experience in our hands and in others, and recommendations by the FDA that it should not be used outside of clinical trials,” said Dr. Charles Powell, chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the Mount Sinai Health System and CEO of the Mount Sinai-National Jewish Health Respiratory Institute.

It wasn’t just Trump: Governor Andrew Cuomo also expressed optimism about hydroxychloroquine’s potential. But studies, including one that looked at 600 patients in the New York City area, were inconclusive.

“Basically it was not seen as a positive. Not seen as a negative. And didn’t really have much of an effect on the recovery rate,” Cuomo said of the results during a CNN town hall on April 23.

Shortly thereafter, the FDA warned the drug was linked to heart problems, and had not been shown to be safe and effective in treating COVID-19.

NYU Langone is now also using hydroxychloroquine only in clinical trials, where a more controlled setting will yield more reliable data.

What is it about New York? Are people there born stupid or did they learn it? Either way, I propose quarantining the entire state until the stupid mentality goes away. Anyone with me?

It looks like we have now an EXCESS of Hydroxychloroquine in the USA ( even as we hear news everyday of Lupus patients wondering if Covid-19 patients will be taking the supply from them ).

It’s much more effective to herd patients into nursing homes so they can die quickly and take others with expensive health care needs with them.

Since it doesn’t work for very sick patients in the hospital, does that mean it will be available for early stage treatment, as in the Texas nursing home?

Only one death among 56 very vulnerable patients, none among the staff.

By the time people require hospitalization, it does not seem to work in most. However most frontline clinicians see a benefit if given very early on when a patient develops fever and dry cough. The purists argue that those patients were destined to get well in any case. Yet its hard to argue the point that treated patients do show a decline in C Reactive Protein, a marker of acute inflammation.

Idiots. How in the world can you maintain the hysteria unless you can keep the panic numbers trending up?

It is a provable fact that doctors are being urged to report any death as related to COVID-19. It is a provable fact that hospitals are paid $13k to admit a COVID-19 patient. It is a fact that hospitals are being paid $39k to put a COVID-19 person on a ventilator. It is a fact that being put on a vent significantly lowers your odds of recovering.

Keep the panic alive!

The order of events seems to be something like this (which does not necessarily reflect any causal relationship):

1) Deaths in NY skyrocket and are the worst in the nation.
2) HCQ is introduced with high hopes that it can turn the situation around.
3) The situation turns around and deaths in NY decline sharply.
4) NY abandons HCQ because it doesn’t work.

My question would be: What did work? What did turn the situation around?

From the very stupid article.

“But studies, including one that looked at 600 patients in the New York City area, were inconclusive.”

What studies?

Conducted by whom?

What are the clinical results?

Where are the NUMBERS?!

HCQ works best @ onset of symptoms, before hospitalization.
That's for Malaria or SARS-Cov-2.
See - drop in hospitalizations in Italy, and use as a prophylactic for healthcare workers in S.Korea

BS...I’d like to see the EXACT regimen they were using. Was it Dr Zs protocol, which includes the very NECESSARY Zinc, and added Zythromax???

“Keep the panic alive.”

Here’s the contradiction; I believe they are calling every death they can a Covid to make that number high, hoping it will hurt Trump and allow for stricter controls and fewer freedoms.

But if the stricter controls help keep the number lower, is that contradictory?

NY treatment plan is to send the contagious elderly to die in convalescent homes where they can spread the virus to other vulnerable people. They will put other patients on ventilators so they can die drowning in their own fluids. What a beautiful place to live or die.
