As conservatives, we pride ourselves on our unwavering support of the Thin Blue Line, on backing our cops against leftist slander, and yet stupid and evil people in law enforcement are putting that default thumbs-up from normal Americans at risk. Its bad enough when we watch the ridiculous spectacle of Deputy Karren and Deputy Man-Karen yelling at some mom for committing felony play-dating, but then we see how the FBI has flat-out framed political enemies and its too much. If the LEO community does not police its own ranks and stamp out this nonsense, it might as well take all the goodwill it has earned over the years, douse it in cheap gasoline, and set it on fire.
A big chunk of society, mostly on the left, detests the police. It would be a really poor idea to convert the right to that point of view too. But thats where these trends lead.
Heres the thing we normals respect our police not merely because they have badges and funny hats but because they take personal risks to protect us from those who would violate our rights. Usually, these violators are criminals. But the category of People who violate our rights also includes political hacks and bureaucratic petty fascists. And we reasonably expect to be protected from those creeps too.
But we might get suspended or fired! is the response. Well, yeah. Thats correct. And thats immaterial.
We flat-out expect cops to run into gunfire to save lives, cowards like that Florida slug aside, just like we expect firemen to run into burning houses. If doing that stuff was easy and safe, they would not get respect and be honored. See, thats the deal. They get pay and prestige, honor and respect, because they do things other people cant or wont for the good of the community. Its like soldiers the troops dont get thanked for their service because their job is kick-back and safe.
So, we can surely expect them to pushback when some tool with sergeants stripes or chief stars tells them to oppress us.
For those LEOs who are confused:
When someone tells you to tackle people for misdemeanor failure to social distance, we expect you to say No.
When someone tells you to fly drones around scolding citizens, we expect you to say No.
When someone tells you to walk through a church parking lot taking down plate numbers, we expect you to say No.
When someone tells you to roll the SWAT team, with a complete with a Keystone Kop sniper up top, to confront the peril of a bunch of people protesting to reopen business, we expect you to say No.
When someone tells you to hassle Jews for praying, we expect you to say No.
Weve seen all these things happen or be threatened since the bat stew virus infected the Bill of Rights, perhaps fatally. And these atrocities have to stop.
Yes, the officer(s) resisting bullSchiff commands may get disciplined or fired. Yes, doing the right thing sometimes has a cost. We will certainly support remedying such retaliation. But cops dont get to do the wrong thing and still expect us to have their backs.
Many wont play stupid games and they simply blow off dumb orders. Ive witnessed police officers ignore all manner of Karen crimes, as they should. Bravo! Weve seen a number of sheriffs stand up and refuse to enforce illegal and immoral orders from political hacks. Three cheers!
But then there are the Barney Fifes who, instead of saying Hard pass when ordered to dragging off some tattoo artist, comply instead. And thats how we got a viral vid of two tubby constables hauling a guy to the pokey for trying to feed his family. Is that what LEOs signed up for? If so, were in trouble.
Its a sad truth. Far too many of our LEOs are gutless drones who go along to get along, and its a disgrace.
And, to continue the theme of disgrace, we have yet to see one FBI agent throw his badge on the floor and walk out of the J. Edgar Hoover Building in disgust at what the Bureau did about FISA and Flynn.
We support the police; the police need to police their own to ensure they support us.
Heres the thing in an era where Democrats are increasingly attempt to leverage the power of government against their political enemies, this kind of passive acquiescence to manifest injustices is a real threat to the viability of this nation as a free country. Can anyone really calculate the damage the FBI and DoJs schemes and crimes have done to their reputations? And now local law enforcement is trashing its own rep with stupid antics designed to bully normal citizens.
So what happens if a leftist leader starts telling cops to arrest religious minorities for not conforming? How about to arrest people for speaking freely or protesting? What happens when one tells to police to break into citizens homes looking for guns? What happens if the politicians tell them to shoot anyone who resists?
Cant happen? Really? May 4th was the 50th anniversary of Kent State, where four students were shot dead by soldiers while protesting. Without relitigating the incident, the leftist reaction on the anniversary was fascinating. Especially amusing was the ever-flatulent, nuke-curious Rep. Eric Swalwell lamenting how government security forces used guns on American citizens even as he apparently forgot that his dream is to ensure that only government security forces have guns.
After what we have seen lately, through cowardice, stupidity, and outright corruption, who can still be sure that there are not a significant number of LEOs today who would claim they were just following orders?
they lost my support years ago.....
Oath breakers acting like thugs deserve no breaks. When I see sheriffs deputies in Texas using Mraps pointing ar-15s at people to break up a peaceful protest, police in California arresting somebody for surfing on a beach that’s completely empty, or threatening a mother on her property because her child was seen playing with another child in her neighborhood, I lose all respect for law enforcement. They are more concerned about their jobs or pensions rather than the oath they took and the constitution.
top 3 concerns for 95 out of 100 cops:
-their own safety (perfectly reasonable)
-their pension
-other cops
your rights arent even on their radar
the lockdowns are not lawful orders....thats the whole point.
We have seen a mountain of evidence built up over the past 50 years that the police in this country are not our friends. They have shown time and again, at every level, in every sort of agency, in all kinds of situations and circumstances too numerous to mention, that they will follow the orders given to them by every tinpot Marxocrat dictator of whatever stripe, knowingly incarcerating or outright murdering any and all citizens they and their corrupt political masters deem as miscreants. There is never any consideration for anything other than the continued issuance of their paychecks by their employer government agencies. If the people of this country are too dense to see all this and refuse to keep their mouths shut when confonted by an LEO and don’t avoid LEOs at every opportunity, then they have nobody but themselves to blame when they get kicked in the ass by an out-of-control cop.
Bishop_Malachi In his post #6 said it better than I. This is uncharted territory. Many people in positions of authority are going to err on the side of caution. Also, I suspect that governors do have lawful emergency powers to quarantine. Are they going overboard here? In at least some cases, yes.
I know evil when I see it. But I see no monstrous evil here. Over-reactions, yes.
And as I side note, I trust - really trust - Donald Trump. If these orders were so terribly evil, he would be screaming bloody murder about it. But hes not doing that.
Agreed.
There was a time, not so along go, that they were considered to be 'Peace Officers'. Now when a cop shows up, it's practically a signal that things are bound to get worse.
Probably one of the worst things to happen is the militarization of police. All these cops now with their plate carriers and tactical pant (or shoot-me-first pants as I like to call them). Give people toys, and they will want to play with them.
Quote:
” If these orders were so terribly evil, he would be screaming bloody murder about it. But hes not doing that.”
Trump said “Liberate Michigan!” and other fascist-run States. What more must he say?
Trump serves with a Deep State/Globalist gun pointed at his head. His administration is hamstrung. After Trump - The Deluge.
We have a history of our civil rights slowing eroding since the Wilson administration. At no point have all those rights been given back. This will be no different. Government is establishing power over the people. People need to have power over the government to be free. That's not happening because there are a bunch of wusses in the country that are afraid of their own shadows and a stinking flu. They are allowing tyranny. That is evil.
When someone tells you to walk through a church parking lot taking down plate numbers, we expect you to say No.
The guys who might have, said no are long gone. Winnowed out by political correctness. PC invaded the ranks of police, military and workaday people decades ago and it’s intent to enforce obedience to command, which in the case of the public travels thru the ether, guarantees that the operator wI’ll do as expected.
Ask any postwar Soviet citizen about the voice from the ether.
As an example: To be a cop today you have to make believe things that patently have no truth about them are truth incarnate and cannot be denied. You have to accept lies, mouth lies, respect lies salute lies even if it cost you your life. The ONLY people who van survive in such an environment are the ones who tend obey the voice from the ether .
This lockdown seems to have a new obedience catch phrase or command every couple of weeks. “We’re all in this together, stay safe, flatten the curve, stay home, wear your mask. It is no coincidence that the person who told authority “No” was a hairstylist. You are far less likely to find such Badassness among the ranks of people who have willingly accepted marching to the commands of the voice from the ether.
To all those “just doing my job” cops out there. Stand down or there will come a day when you will be treated just like any other armed thug.
“They have gone from being peace officers to being law enforcement officers.”
Agreed
That, my friend is the key. Used to be they were there to “keep the peace” between folks. Calm the situation. Give folks a chance to rethink and step back from the edge.
Now it’s, shoot the dog first.
Read Police State..by Gerry Spence....
The justice system is corrupt because the eighty percent of honest...cops,lawyers,judges,prosecutors will not turn on the corrupt twenty percent...
I believe law enforcement is building a template for the future based on their actions during this crisis.
I do NOT believe they’ll return to “normal” once the crisis has passed. They’ve seen what they can get away with. They’ve got increased power over the citizenry in their hands, and they’re not going to give it up willingly.
Constitution? What’s that? They’re wearing the Constitution on their belts, with plenty of extra clips just in case.
Um... Reread the last paragraph.
“Not a valid comparison. I am talking about lawful orders, as understood by a civilized society.”
How about when I drove down the highway yesterday at about 78 mph when the speed limit was 70. I went thru a speed trap and nothing happened. That cop didn’t follow “a lawful order”.
Personally I am going to call that judicious enforcement. He will not be suspended or fired for not giving me a ticket nor should he be.
Cops need to use good judgement and enforce egregious violations of said “lawful orders”.
On third reading, the last sentence seems OK.
