Cuomo: 66 Percent of New Hospitalizations Are From People Staying Home
cnbc.com ^ | MAY 06, 2020

Most new Covid-19 hospitalizations in New York state are from people who were staying home and not venturing much outside, a “shocking” finding, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.

The preliminary data was from 100 New York hospitals involving about 1,000 patients, Cuomo said at his daily briefing.

It shows that 66% of new admissions were from people who had largely been sheltering at home. The next highest source of admissions was from nursing homes, 18%.

“If you notice, 18% of the people came from nursing homes, less than 1% came from jail or prison, 2% came from the homeless population, 2% from other congregate facilities, but 66% of the people were at home, which is shocking to us,” Cuomo said.

“This is a surprise: Overwhelmingly, the people were at home,” he added. “We thought maybe they were taking public transportation, and we’ve taken special precautions on public transportation, but actually no, because these people were literally at home.”

Cuomo said nearly 84% of the hospitalized cases were people who were not commuting to work through car services, personal cars, public transit or walking. He said a majority of those people were either retired or unemployed.

He does great power point presentations, and doesn’t call them out for the idiots that they are.

Reminds me of the joke, most auto fatalities occur within 2 miles of your home. So I’m moving!

But moving out of NY is no joke, it’s a great idea!

Either they have not stayed at home and are lying, or they have had visitors who didn’t stay at home.

But they did not contract the virus automagically.

Agree!

And I am old, fat, and sickly.

I am thinking of my grandchildren and great-grands, of which there are many.

I want them to have a good future in this country.

Meanwhile...in Sweden...the figures are no worse than are figures from Britain (very tight lockdown...arrests are being made) or the US.

Might have something to do with labeling everything as COVID.

The essential workers, going to work and working with their co-workers everyday fared better than the folks told to stay home. And Cuomo thinks it’s a mystery. It is not a mystery at all and Cuomo is just an idiot.

The “experts” are still all over the map with this thing and their models/projections. They continue to ignore the most important thing about the model - demographics.

The elderly and those with serious underlying health conditions are by far the most vulnerable to this virus.

Younger people in reasonably good shape have almost nothing to fear from this virus outside of their ability to transmit it to the elderly and vulnerable.

This is what the data now shows, but this IS NOT the data they used to model projections for the entire nation. There is no longer any justification to keep the majority of the country shut down, but there is a justification to keep the elderly and vulnerable sheltered away from the rest of us until we learn more.

Why Trump is not yelling this from the rooftops is beyond me, but he is surrounded by people who seem to be ignoring what I wrote above and a media engine still focused on hysteria.

NYC is NOT the rest of the nation. It never was. It is a very unique place. A person in NYC with an average daily commute on the subway and a walk of a few blocks on a sidewalk has infinitely more contact with the virus than a person in any small town in the USA. A person in NYC breathes far more air that was breathed by others than the rest of America. Their exposure is exponentially higher.

Again -

There is NO logical reason to have the majority of the country locked down based on what we now know and have known for many weeks. None. There is and will continue to be reasons to keep the elderly and vulnerable safe from the rest of us until we get a better grasp on this thing.

I understand why we made the decisions in March and the early parts of April. We did not know with a high degree of certainty the truth about this virus. Beginning early last month the data became clear, the “models and projections” were shown to be badly overstated, and the “justification” for a one-size fits all approach was no longer valid.

Testing has proven this to be true with astronomical numbers of asymptomatic positive tests.

This thing has mostly been politics and bad expert advice from the 2nd week of April and on.....

Being New York, I have to wonder if air systems and elevators, combined with people being lax, play a part.

"Meanwhile...in Sweden...the figures are no worse than are figures from Britain (very tight lockdown...arrests are being made) or the US."

But Sweden's number are much worse than Finland, Denmark, and Norway, which are much more comparable demographically and culturally and did lockdown.

Yep- here’s a blurb on it:

A garlic allergy is rare. If you’re allergic to garlic, you can be allergic to cooked or raw garlic, or to all forms.

A garlic allergy is caused when your body’s immune system mistakenly identifies garlic as being harmful and produces antibodies in an attempt to fight it off. This reaction can occur immediately upon contact, or within two hours after ingesting or touching garlic.

it may just be adverse reaction- but whatever it is, i get sweaty shaky weak- even with just a little bit of it-

Yeah it’s not pleasant- like i said, there are so many foods with garlic in it because garlic enhances so many different foods, hard to avoid it- especially when eating out- I don’t eat things like steak or seafood anymore when out because they almost always have garlic in them=- plus the fact it’s suppsoed to be very good for folks- oh well-

“Why Trump is not yelling this from the rooftops is beyond me”

Probably because “it only adversely affects 90 year olds who are at death’s door” meme isn’t correct, it’s just an Urban Legend. He’d get laughed off the world stage by everyone.

I know there are problems in Central NY with positives and their contacts breaking quarantine and gking out and about. Repeatedly. And as far as I know there have been no civil or criminal penalties for this. Even though healthy people are threatened with one or both daily.

I doubt it was the outdoor walks. It was probably a combination offamily and store visits. There’s a far lesser chance the virus came in on mail or packages.
