One of the many unfortunate repercussions of COVID-19 is that older workers will have an exceedingly more difficult time getting back on their feet. Theyre more likely to be terminated and will certainly experience hardships finding a new job at the same level and compensation as the one theyve lost.
The United States now has 30 million Americans who have lost their jobs since mid-March. This number excludes people who were already unemployed, those who gave up searching for a job and people who are working in roles far below their experience levels.
It's not just ageism that causes a backlash against experienced workers. An unfortunate combination of a confluence of fast-growing trends may irrevocably harm the careers of professionals ranging from mid-30s and older. As companies will be tightening their belts to save money, they will also need to cut costs. Usually, this means downsizing people. There is a correlation between the age of an employee and his or her compensation level. As people climb the corporate ladder, their pay increases. Generally, older people have more time in the corporate world, so their pay is likely higher than workers who are out of college for only three to 10 years.

Did we wake up in Logan’s Run?
All this devastation to keep Great Grandma alive......TRILLIONS of Dollars....MILLIONS of JOBS....TENS of THOUSANDS of BUSINESSES!!
Maybe so. But when everything is broken they will soon be hired back to do the “repairs”.
There go my ****** dreams of being a dentist
It’s obvious from this article, that anyone 55 and over who has lost their job, will never work again.
Love that movie...
It wasn’t to save grandma, it was to destroy the world econmy and bring in the New World Order, aka one world government. Let’s hope it fsiled but the war isn’t over just yet
Do you believe this BS?
Run into people all the time who got laid off in their late 50’s or early 60’s. Now I’m one of them.
Luckily I’ve been frugal since grade school.
I feel sorry for those who were not or couldn’t be.
Just read AirIndia is having emergency flights to bring H1B human filth to the United States.
Yeah,so I and all other American software engineers will permanently part of the permanently not employable gimmee class.
Ageism is very real. Better get in shape too.
A benevolent dictator would require employers that laid off workers in the last few months be legally required to see that all employees hired as the economy recovers must first be those who were laid off, before others.
Fortunately for Liberty we don’t have a benevolent dictator, which is unfortunate for many who have recently been laid off.
we are supposed to stay in our homes.
People are going to go back o work for the companies they worked for.
“Do you believe this BS?”
I know - I don’t “believe,” I know - that people get involuntarily aged-out of their jobs and out of the mainstream workforce on a regular basis. The average termination age has been higher, but maybe that could change now, I don’t know.
That and getting rid of those nasty old guns, and printing 3-4 trillion dollars, and selling out our industry to the Chinese, and creating the “Trump Depression” so that Biden/Abrams 2020 can win... IOW another day another dollar for the MSG (Mainstreammedia, Gates, & Soros)
“Fortunately for Liberty”
But not fortunately for American workers.
"I saw this movie about the future called 'Logan's Run'....ain't no n*****s in it, I said 'White folks ain't plannin' for us to be here.'" - Richard Pryor
Really? They are just now finding this out?
