Attorney General William Barr made a last-minute push Monday to persuade the administration to modify its position in the Obamacare dispute that will be heard at the Supreme Court this fall, arguing that the administration should pull back from its insistence that the entire law be struck down.
... Barr and other top advisers have argued against the hard-line position for some time, warning it could have major political implications if the comprehensive health care law appears in jeopardy as voters head to the polls in November.
According to four sources familiar with the meeting, Barr argued for modifying the administrations current stance to preserve parts of the law, rather than fully back the lawsuit filed by a group of Republican states. As it stands now, the Trump administrations position seeks to invalidate the entire Affordable Care Act, signed by President Barack Obama in 2010 and commonly known as Obamacare.

Bagpipes Bob is playing again!

Dead!
The administration either agrees with the position that it's unconstitutional or else they don't. Nothing else should be playing into the decision, certainly not politics.
Nonsense.
The decision won’t come until after the election—the campaign issue ought to be framed by Trump to support a new health care program that affords people the option of buying various kinds of support as they see fit.
Pre-existing conditions? We don’t know what that really costs—in the present environment of continuing coverage, maybe not a lot; if necessary, some additional funding paid for by a surcharge on other health care requirement could be considered. One way or another, a public commitment to provide a backup funding system is part of the political debate.
Trump should fire Barr immediately. At a minimum, he should tell Barr that he is going to get fired unless he produces a reasonable explanation for having failed to charge McCabe or a clear indication that they have turned McCabe.
Barr is going to stand on prosecution of the bad guys until after the election assuming that Trump is going to be replaced by a Dem who will dictate that the effort is to be abandoned. We need a real Attorney General to replace Barr who will pursue the criminal conduct of the people involved.
Its no longer relevant.
Most hospitals will be nationalized within the next 24 months and independent medical practice with a few exceptions (boob jobs etc) will be illegal.
I'll wait for better sourcing.
Good grief, who in heck is advising Trump on who he hires for AG? Are these AG picks Trump’s alone?
Two useless AG’s in a row!
Usually Republicans wait into after the election to stab the Constitution in the back in order to get along with Democrats....
4 authors CNN.
“Soon” to them is anytime in the next millennium, apparently.
What call? I haven’t heard anyone talk about fighting Obamacare since June 2017.
Waiting to hear if Barr backs this up. For now: no source, no story.
When it involves a case before the Supreme Court... Did you read the article?
Realistically, only Thomas and Alito will be the only ones to decide against ACA.
No he isn’t. Disagreeing with Trump does not make somebody a deep state operative. Barr is right to be concerned. It would be more prudent to have a replacement in place before totally scuttling the act. Bad as it is. The voter’s perception is more important with the election coming up. It needs to be made clear that the administration has the right to change, amend, cut, replace portions of the act. Striking it entirely at a time when many people are going to be hit with monstrous medical bills is playing right into the Democrats’ hands. The media (which many people rely on for information) will make the most of this to paint Trump as heartless. And they will buy it.
There is no sense in winning one battle if it will lose you the war. This battle can wait. There are others far more important to this country and for those we need Trump another 4 years.
It’s not his job to worry about the political implications of anything.
and if Mr Barr really believes that getting rid of O-care would hurt politically, he’s not in touch with the American people...not at all.
It’s CNN, so they’re already known for that. So much the better if these leakers are proven to be liars.
