Biden calls for immediate $13 minimum wage increase for frontline workers

WASHINGTON - Former Vice President Joe Biden Monday called for an immediate $13 minimum wage increase for essential workers and criticized President Trump for viewing these front-liners as “disposable” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking at a virtual town hall with the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the apparent Democratic nominee proposed giving employees required to work through the public health crisis - many of whom are minorities and are working in a “war zone” - a $13 minimum wage increase on top of their current salaries to ensure that they can sustain their families, especially if they were to get sick on the job.

Biden already supports a $15 minimum wage for federal workers, but is calling for this extra amount just for essential employees working in virus hotspots like meatpacking plants and hospitals while the crisis continues. He said that Congress is considering adding a policy like his latest proposal in the new CARES Act.

He stressed the need for essential employees to receive better pay, free coronavirus treatment regardless of their immigration status or health insurance, and paid sick leave during the outbreak.

“We can afford to do that,” Biden said.

Pre-empting the availability of a vaccine, Biden said the country must prepare now to ensure that all vaccines are free and accessible to everyone.

Between him and Governor Half-Whit who proposed free college tuition for frontline workers, these idiots are going to make the economy in Zimbabwe look positively stellar.

Sure, now that I’ve smacked down Tara Reade, I can start unveiling plans for America.

DOCTOR Jill is probably worried about an intense on-stage kiss at the convention.

This raise should be paid for from a decrease in congressional/senate/staffer salaries after the next election.

It’s happening in the free market now. Bonus’s and pay raises. No need for law.

The neighbor kid next to me is still in High School and earning $14.00 at McDonalds. I’m sure it’s a location, location, location thing.

Biden never made dollar on his own. He has zero business experience. Of course that qualifies him to spend other people’s money.

Let me tell you about ‘we.’

My brother works for a large hospital corporation in Michigan. They extended an ‘opportunity’ to all employees, clinical/administrative/support/maintenance/etc. to take a 90-day unpaid furlough with benefits at the end of which there is no guarantee that they would be brought back.

In his group (IT with ~100 employees), 3 people took the deal, including him. I think the number hospital-wide was in the same range, percentage-wise. Managers are ALL taking a 40% pay cut across the board. They’re hemorrhaging money up there - and I don’t think the situation differs elsewhere.

Like a true socialist, these a$$-hats think money grows on trees (or more pointedly, thinks it’s okay to ‘spend all you want; we’ll print more.’ Pisses me off, it does, especially since my brother was one of the 3 that opted to take the deal.

Since they didn’t get nearly enough ‘volunteers,’ there will be large layoffs yet this week, and none of those people (the ones who didn’t take advantage of the ‘opportunity’) will be laid off with no benefits at all. Sucks to be him; sucks worse to be them.

I don’t know what the answer was/is to this pandemic. Overreact? Just right? Not enough? I don’t know. All I know is that lots of people are going to be out of work for an extended period of time, and I fear that our Socialist overlords will use this to push us right over the brink.

You’re doing it wrong Biden. Why not $20? $50. Or more appropriately, a stay at home guaranteed wage. C’,mon, man! Get with the times.

NO. It’s their jobs they are making money, most of us are not, not even getting unemployment or helps.

I am glad supermarket workers and health etc workers are able to be doing their jobs at this time, but I’m tired of hearing the airplane fly overs and all these extra things are for “frontline heroes”.

At this point the heroes are those of us putting up with out income for 2 months or so and resisting running out doing real harm to those restricing us from our rights to get back to our work and provide for ourselves.
