A Family Dollar store security guard was fatally shot in Flint, Michigan, on Friday after telling a customer her child had to wear a face mask to enter the store, prosecutors said.
An argument began when the security guard, Calvin Munerlyn, 43, told Sharmel Lashe Teague, 45, that customers needed to wear face masks in the store, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said at a Monday news conference. She yelled at him, spit on him and drove off, Leyton said. About 20 minutes later, her car returned to the store and her husband and son, Larry Edward Teague, 44, and Ramonyea Travon Bishop, 23, stepped out and confronted Munerlyn, according to investigators who spoke to witnesses in the store and reviewed surveillance video. Bishop shot him, Leyton said.
Leyton said Munerlyn was doing his job, protecting others and enforcing a statewide executive order. In Michigan, people are required to wear face coverings in businesses. Stores can refuse service to anyone who isn't wearing a mask.
"We simply can't devolve into an 'us versus them' mentality," he said. "We need to make a commitment as a community to do the things necessary to allow us to stay healthy and turn a page on this crisis together. Not for ourselves but for Calvin Munerlyn, who lost his life needlessly and senselessly."
Michigan State Police arrested Sharmel Teague but are searching for the two men, Special 1st Lt. David Kaiser said.
Social media posts by friends and family memorialized Munerlyn, a father of eight children, by his nickname: "Big Duper." A GoFundMe account for the family has raised more than $22,000, exceeding its goal. Latryna Sims Munerlyn, his wife of 10 years, told NBC 25 that he worked at the store for more than a year.

By your analysis everyone should wear masks forevermore because there is always the risk of disease transmission and someone could then die. Absurd. We are not living life in a bubble.
Holly police: Man wipes nose on clerk after being asked to wear mask
Ewww. Gross.
You nailed it.
Was the security guard Amish?
Does that answer your question?
Worcestershire = Worstershire (Great sauce)
Leicestershire = Lestershire. (Red Leicester - Great cheese)
Gloucester = Glouster (Double Gloucester - Great cheese)
I’m hungry for some reason.
Sharmel Lashe Teague,
When did my analysis ever say such a thing?
I was hoping that the shutdown could bring new cases down to a low level and mask wearing could finish it off.
We can’t keep the shutdown going. But we can certainly try everyone wearing a mask for a month.
One of the problems with the shutdown is that there were so many exceptions for essential businesses and no one was encouraged to wear masks, much less required to.
So it flattened the curve, but didn’t drop new cases much.
If we unwind the shutdown without masks, then the CDC’s new prediction of 3000 deaths a day in June is probably going to be on the lowside, and there will be temptation to go back into lock down and there will be significant consumer fear. Businesses will be open but customers will be scarce. I don’t think that’s a scenario that the flubros want, or that anyone wants.
I say we “all” wear masks for a month and reevaluate at the end of the month. Except those that can’t for a medical reason. And the Presidential guidelines call for those people not to be out at all.
Whatever. I didnt extrapolate anything. This thread is about the Security Guard being murdered for doing the same thing the Ranger did, the crime of telling people to do something you disagree with.
It just turned out a little differently didnt it?
You are the one who started this back and forth conversation because you were obviously upset about what I posted yesterday. Boo friggin hoo.
You can chuckle all you want about the about the Ranger being pushed into the Lake. Would you chuckle if he was injured by the actions of that Moron?
I dont justify people committing Assault and Battery whether they are drunk or not. You think its fine and dandy. Good for you.
If I do not wish to comply with a store’s bossypants rules, I’ll take my business elsewhere.
Murdering the employees seems a tad harsh.
“Unclear on the concept” is the phrase that comes to mind.
Sorta like the video of 2 cops —not wearing masks— pinning a guy to the ground & beating the crap out of him.
Why? For failing to follow ‘social distancing’ rules.
This whole cv-rules enforcement is a farce.
You need to break those numbers out by age groups. You need to provide sources for your data. You need to provide percentages of those who died who are obese. Percent of US infected vs percent of Korea infected (stage of disease). Likelihood of further spread in Korea vs US. And any other factors that might come into play. I’m interested, but I’m not going to do the research for you, other than to say I used your numbers and back of the napkin calculations with 100% of those dying being obese, still need six times the number in Korea to die just to equal current deaths in US based on your seriously inadequate available and unsourced information.
“There has been a lot of “anger” on this site about masks.”
I’m pretty sure no Freeper, et al. has killed a security guard over it though. Let’s not conflate disagreement, argument, and peaceful protest with murder.
I say we all wear masks for a month and reevaluate at the end of the month.
And when we get to the end of a month and new cases keep occurring, then what, another month, and another? You are under the illusion you can control the world. You cannot. No one can.
By your own admission there are exclusions to the mask rule. Babies are not required to wear one. People with medical issues. So what happens? Does the virus magically exclude them? No, it just spreads more slowly, but it continues to spread.
The only way out is herd immunity. It is all that ever works, unless you want to wait for a magic flu shot which may never be developed. Remember the virus is in the corona family; the same family of viruses as the common cold. There is no flu shot for the common cold.
And the shooter and ‘husband’...but no telling what kind of tale she used to incite them ... if they even needed inciting - some are just looking for an excuse.
