“The shirts Probably made in China..?”

That's a very important point. I would wager that a lot clothing chains have a large inventory of Made in China merchandise, and want to dump it before there is an anti-China backlash and they can't sell it at all.

Hmmm...may be already starting.

I actually found something on a discount rack for $49 ... marked down from $2000.

I think you are seeing a reflection of reduction in overhead combined with inventory they want to move more quickly. I see deals like this all the time at end o season. Heck, I am wearing a shirt right now with one of see deals.

I am getting daily emails with the same types of math from other retailers.

A lot of retail is purposely misleading. For instance, Kohl's Cash. "Earn" $20 in Kohl's Cash, and you think to yourself, "Hey, I get a $20 discount on my next Kohl's purchase". Well, maybe "yes", but likely "no".

About 10 years ago I made out like a bandit at Kohl's. They had $10 coupons with no minimum purchase necessary. I got several dozen of those coupons and applied them to a whole bunch of T-shirts which were selling for $10 so final price was.....FREE!!! I got enough T-shirts to last me for years.

A&F was, at one time, a high end outfitter with top quality merchandise. Teddy Roosevelt, Charles Lindbergh, Clark Gable, Gary Cooper and a host of others bought outdoor gear and guns from A&F over the decades the original company was in business. It would have been better to just let the name die.

As an aside, Griffin & Howe holds the old gun records for A&F and some other companies. If you have a European gun, particularly a JP Sauer or Francotte there’s a possibility it passed through A&F. I got photocopies of the original ledger entries, measurements and sales records of nice old 1920s German shotgun from G&H, for a fee of course.

I wish they were still selling guns at that discount.

Reaction from reading the first paragraph: “One, Two, Three, infinity.” Sounds like the author would make a good Hottentot.

Yeah. I remember going to A&F on Union Square in SF on the way to VN in 1966. That was a treat for a country boy.

Indeed like all the weekend sale stores have or holiday sales.

Seen an ad someone calls a story and asks are you having a sale this weekend and he says no nor is anyone else.

Those are chain discounts. I work for a wholesaler/retailer and it is customary in our industry to use those. So, if a vendor wants me to bring in their line, they will provide a “suggested retail price” and I may get, say 50/40% off (which equates to 70%). A lot of people do not understand them. Once I was in a GNC store, and they had a promo in which I would get 50% off for signing up for their gold card, plus 20% for a total of 70% off. I tried to explain to her that it was really 60% off, but she never really got it.

I read somewhere that they’ve reinvented themselves recently, like maybe in the last three or four years, and have dropped the trendy vibe and reverted back to more classic high quality designs.

More than that at Military Exchanges.

NEX sales is electronics which are now obsolete. Going to spend you Stimulus on last years TV? Some Jewelry as it is Mother’s day weekend coming up, but not much discounts on the expensive stuff just costume jewelry.

I’m old enough to remember their store right in the heart of downtown Chicago that had a magnificent selection of high quality firearm. But that was when America was still America. Now there isn’t a gun store in the whole filthy city thanks to democrats.
