My understanding is that the mask is not to prevent the wearer from getting the virus but to prevent giving it.

BTW, the N95 standard means the mask itself removes at least 95 percent of 0.3 micron particles at test conditions. That particle size is the most difficult to remove (explanation is beyond the scope of this posting).

Fact: A virus is so small that it cannot be seen through an optical microscope. The existence of virus’s was only speculated about(due to otherwise unexplained illnesses) until the invention of the electron microscope. Until then no one had ever actually visualized a virus.
Keeping that in mind then one should realize that not many masks could even filter a virus out. A virus can even get through an N99 mask. Now imagine that the mask becomes contaminated and actually becomes a transmission source.

Wearing a mask INCREASES the chance of getting the virus.
People wearing masks touch their face 5 times more often than people who do not. Most people constantly readjust their mask. Touching surfaces (counters, handles, windows, railings,etc) and then bringing whatever is on your fingers to your face is the best way to get the virus. Masks only increase the amount of touching of your face, therefore increasing the risk.
USA (little mask-wearing) Deaths/million = 204
Taiwan (mask-wearing) Deaths/million = 0.3
S.Korea (mask-wearing) Deaths/million = 5.0
Japan (mask-wearing) Deaths/million = 4.0
Just how many people are going to change their masks everyday? Maybe mask buying can be a personal property deduction and not medical. Keep your receipts just in case. How much is this costing the average family. . .there goes the corona check.
A mask can increase your risk if you use it improperly (e.g., touching your face more to adjust it, not washing it, using material so porous it has no effect, luring you into a false sense of security around people with the disease so that you no longer distance from them). On the other hand, a properly used mask provides some added measure of protection over no mask at all. So not an idiot, but I somewhat disagree with him on this.
A nurse is a whole different situation and wears his or her mask differently. People wearing them on the street just trotting around are just concentrating any virus they may have contacted, they’re breathing and rebreathing their own (possibly infected) air, and they are also reducing their oxygen levels and not filling their lungs.
