During coronavirus pandemic, totalitarianism doesn’t shock us anymore
Fox News.com ^ | May 2, 2020 | Tucker Carlson

Last week we interviewed a longtime partner at the consulting firm McKinsey & Company named Peter Walker. Like so many in finance and consulting, Walker spent an awful lot of his career doing business in China. We have no idea how much money he made doing that.

We do know that along the way, Walker internalized a lot of the attitudes of China’s totalitarian government. During our interview, we asked Walker what he thought of China’s lockdown that was imposed in an effort to halt the spread of the coronavirus.

I asked Walker: “Now credible reports suggest that Chinese authorities locked people in their apartments and left them to die. We know they snatched people off the streets and threw them into police vans – God knows where they went. That’s the quarantine that you think they deserve high praise for. Why?”

Walker replied: “Well I think … if you just look at the results, I know there’s always going to be questions about exactly what the numbers are, but I think the harsh action that they took, given the scale of China and number of big cities in it, was exactly what they needed to do to prevent the outbreak from going any further. The reality is the outbreak hasn’t gone much beyond Wuhan.”

The secret police kidnapping citizens off the street, authorities locking people in their apartments from the outside until they starve to death – just look at the results. All of that, Walker said, was “exactly what they needed to do.”

This is the view of one of America’s most prominent business leaders. He didn’t seem ashamed to say it. Later in our interview, Walker suggested that American authorities could have done the same things in New York, if only they’d gotten an earlier start.

We have people who are cheerleading it, and call for resisters to be stomped into the ground.

This is really terrifying. I don’t know why Americans went into such a panic to begin with, but I also don’t know why they were so ready to accept this type of totalitarian behavior, rat out their neighbors, etc. And it’s not only Democrats, unfortunately.

I never woulda thought...

I’ve read where people have heard screams from crematoriums.

Peter’s tune would’ve be a lot different, I bet, if he were the one being sealed up in his own apartment.

Pretty shocking comment by Walker. Sadly, I don’t think he’s the only one who agrees with what they did. The Chinese model is considered efficient and effective.

“I’ve read where people have heard screams from crematoriums.”

I have too. No words for how horrifying that prospect is.

Attitudes like those espoused by Peter Walker, along with Democrat governors who are drunk with their own unchecked power run the risk that as society continues to degrade, the protesters just might decide that have to remove some of these governors by force.

Always surprises me about the pearl clutching and gasping that goes on when people come to realize that corporate America is not the bastion of free enterprise and the American "Way" they had assumed it was. There has also been belief that totalitarian groupthink infected corporate culture from the direction of the government when it's the other way around. Lots of cross pollination going on in that regard, in an effort of priming the pump for widespread default acceptance of authoritarian culture.

It's so abstract, from the view of his perfumed existence as displaced from the great unwashed. Sure, it would work. For a while, until resistance to it coalesced. Of course he would be wondering what is wrong with the serfs, why won't they cooperate, don't they want to live.

HOORAY Tucker! Great work. Preparing the battlefield. Setting the template. Psyoping the soldiers. Asymmetric war. Unfortunately we will be in it the rest of our lives...every day...every hour. Virtue signaling to violence signaling. It’s just a shot away.

We really could have spared ourselves the home confinement measures. As long as people stay six feet apart, wear masks in the stores and hang out in groups of less than 11 people, that should slow the virus’ burn through the community.

As for not just Democrats, you are absolutely correct (Fat Larry Fauxgan, Mike DeWhine, etc.)

We truly have criminal leadership in this world. What is that saying?

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing.

We cannot have idiots like that who cannot support and defend the Constitution.

They have been tainted.

One expects SOME humanitarian ethics from an American corporation. Locking families inside their homes from the outside?! Can he really support such a thing? Does HE have a family?

Unfortunately, there is financial interest in making nice to China. They are obviously a big market, and they have no qualms about shutting out any company who criticizes them. Besides, mega corporations don’t seem to feel any loyalty to the U.S. once they become global. That’s even more reason to support our small businesses which are being hit hard during this pandemic.
