Comcast Corp. s NBCUniversal is reviewing operations across its portfolio of media and entertainment properties as part of a cost-cutting effort that could result in a significant reduction of staff, people familiar with the matter said.
Discussions began this past week regarding cost-cutting measures, including layoffs, the people said. NBCUniversals holdings include the NBC broadcast network, the Universal Pictures movie studio, theme parks, NBC News and several entertainment cable channels.
NBCUniversal Chief Executive Jeff Shell alluded to the review during Comcasts earnings call Thursday. Asked how NBCUniversal was positioned to deal with the economic fallout from the coronavirus, Mr. Shell said,On costs, the question about whether were right-sized on costs given where the environment is headed, the answer is probably no, and were addressing that pretty aggressively.
He added: And certainly over the next weeks and months, well make pretty significant adjustments there across our business.
Other units that will be scrutinized include the cable networks group, which includes the Bravo, E! and USA channels, a person familiar with that sector said.
Advertising revenue slightly decreased in the quarter, and is expected to be down significantly in the current quarter.

Too bad, so sad.
I lived in SoCal for 8 years.
Universal laying off folks?
Oh well.
Just means that whatever shows they have in the fall...will have no-name actors, and marginal scripts. Probably a lot of reality shows in the mix.
I work with them on post production. They are probably 2nd only to Disney with the biggest amount of lefty pukes and I work with most studios.
“But we’re all in this together”
Oh well....
Good. Silence the propaganda machines.
Can the terminally unfunny Seth Meyers be cast out?
Should anyone be surprised when fantasy becomes news.
Universal Studios and NBC equals the merger of fantasy and news.
Disney and ABC equals the merger of fantasy and news.
Top Kek.
Mostly they (the entertainers, NBC tv personnel, etc.) do it to themselves. They stop being entertaining (or whatever functions they are supposed to provide). Before the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
I hope others (other studios, etc.) follow suit. We have so many ‘celebrities’ (a lot of the names I don’t even recognize), all of them imagine the public want to know their thoughts on every and anything every minute of each day.
I am eyeing you Disney/ABC/ESPN/???. Stop turning sports as just another venue for you to preach PC and preen how “pure” you are.
Comcast is an American enemy more dangerous than Russia or Iran.
Comcast employees not contributing directly to the propaganda effort are extraneous
Thing is, theres probably enough money at the top to float all their employees for a year. But the Leftist ideas of equity are purely for display. The minute any of them are faced with actual loss or inconvenience, they cut off the dead weight immediately.
How will NBC “News” blame Trump for this?
Big cuts coming to NBC?
Wow, fake news fails to sell advertising!
Who’d of thunk it?
Might you be a major stockholder in Lava soap?
How many white sage bundles do you go through in a week?
I lived in Portland, and all I can say is, “Oh my!” and be printed.
This is all stuff you can see on Netflix.
