Another great segment from Tucker. Sobering.

Yes. Great sobering analysis worth watching again.
The US Constitution is the supreme law of the land.
Do I think government has the right to ask citizens to stay home, practice social distancing, and wear masks? Most certainly. It can (and should) inform and request cooperation. However, it has no legal or moral authority to override the US Constitution in emergencies or otherwise, regardless of legislative-passed laws and executive orders.
Congress simply has no authority to ignore the Bill of Rights. They have no right! They can request, even cajole citizens to “behave”, but Congress cannot ignore the Bill of Rights. If they don’t like it, begin the amendment process. Don’t like it? Amend! Otherwise, it’s time We the People started reminding our leaders who they work for!
The US Constitution isn’t some magic force field.
Our elected officials will do whatever they want to as long as their constituents ignore their civic duties. For instance, how many eligible voters choose not to vote?
Constitutional rights, like muscles, tend to atrophy if not exercised properly.
It’s just a loaded word for “new normal.”
The only thing worse than not shutting down, is shutting down.
The only think worse than shutting down, is not shutting down.
We stand in the midst of a global epidemic. Sorry, but this
isn’t the time I’m going to stand up and demand I be able to
go to the beach, citing the U. S. Constitution.
I’d be a lot more inclined to demand to be able to go back
to work if I didn’t realize everyone else would be able to
also, and out of my family - my mom, dad, my diabetic wife,
and the one out of three children with bad asthma would not
be with me in three months, because we opened up too soon.
There are times in life when you can do something about a
situation. There are times when you can’t.
I don’t think we should roll over and agree to be walked on.
I don’t see it that way right now. With some exceptions I
think our leaders are doing the best they can.
I think it’s time for patience and understanding.
We may not like everything they are doing. Hell, if I was
making the decisions not everyone would agree with me.
Sometimes we have to let go of complaining, hurling insults,
and just take things in stride.
None of us has all the answers on this one. It’s just
silly to act like any of us does.
A+
Then your family shouldn’t go to the beach if it would put them at risk, but for other people it’s a healthy place to be.
The attitude those police officers took with the mother of that child in Wisconsin, for daring to have a play date with her child, and then those spy drones, barking out orders from above in New Jersey.
Is this America or are we in the Orwellian world of 1984?
Here I was, thinking all my life that something like these could never happened in America.
LOL
May your chains rest lightly on your shoulders.
If the Government begins the “amendment process” we may have to discover what our forefathers learned in World War One and Two. Tyranny is stopped in blood when you defeat evil men are killed to make them stop, as they try to kill you so that they can gain that power over you.
That is how much they Lust for that power, they are willing to kill Millions to get it.
Freedom is not given to you, you either pick it up and fight for it or it is taken from you.
Now if we fight we need no violence or blood. If we do not wrest our freedom back now, many will die.
The more power they seize with no repercussion the bolder they get and the more invincible they believe they are. We must make the Bullies realize they are not all powerful, and that Justice is more powerful then they are.
They need a political bloody nose to prevent their firing squad in the future.
You’re absolutely right, Bratch. It boggles my mind when I look at Washington DC and see so many corrupt politicians get reelected time after time. They cling to office like it’s their divine right—worse than European aristocracies of old—and they usually stay until they are clearly well past retirement, even unto death.
For example, consider Nancy Pelosi. She’s 80 years old folks! The mental and physical deterioration is obvious. Just watch any of her recent interviews. Yet, she will be reelected forever, most likely until she dies.
I say this as a not-so-young person myself who has elderly parents about the same age as Nancy Pelosi. I love them. I respect them, but the truth of the matter is plain. People deteriorate with age, and 80+ year olds really have no business running the affairs of this country. They should retire and turn leadership over to the next generation for the benefit of the country they claim to love. But they won’t!
The only way this will ever change is if We the People force them to retire.
If you want to see what a one party rule is, look no farther than most blue states. Totalitarian.
If we weren’t living in this time of epidemic, I’d be the
first to join you regarding rights.
Right now we are approaching 65,000 deaths in the United
States, and we have no way of knowing if we wouldn’t be
facing 200,000 plus deaths right now if we hadn’t
sheltered in place.
Spouting “rights” issues in a time like this is silly.
If you want to argue on an economic basis, fine. Rights?
Come on.
This is a war. In times of war we all have to sacrifice.
Our parents did during the World Wars. It’s part of being
and adult, and having to accept that even as adults there
are times when things don’t go our way.
None of us should accept rights violations that do not go
away when this is all said and done. For now, we need to
pull together and knock off the idea it’s patriotic to
fight ‘the man’.
DoughtyOne, no one is forcing you and your family to go to the beach. Note I never wrote people should ignore this virus or government advice. It’s up to each citizen to evaluate the risks and act accordingly. Me personally? I err on the side of caution, but I simply do not have the right to tell you what to do in this regard. Neither does the government. If you want government to have the authority to ignore the Bill of Rights in emergencies, then get together with other like believers and pass an amendment. It’s really that simple.
Again, I totally support social distancing, mask wearing, and good hygiene for me and mine. I just don’t think you have the right to use government to force me to comply. I can comply of my own free will and still respect the rights of others to act differently.
They cannot begin the amendment process, because they simply don’t have the votes. That is why the left has repeatedly amended the US Constitution using judicial fiats. They don’t have the votes, and they don’t have popular support for making such changes. Sadly, We the People let them get away with it, mainly by reelecting the same people over and over again, no matter what they do.
Spare me. This totalitarian fiasco has NOTHING in common with WWII in any way, shape, or form.
No. Not even close.
We stand in the midst of a global epidemic. Sorry, but this
isnt the time Im going to stand up and demand I be able to
go to the beach, citing the U. S. Constitution.
Chuckle.
Did we suspend the constitution in WW II?
What about during WW I during which we had the Spanish flu, which killed vastly more people (over 600,000) than coronavirus ever will.
Was everybody put under mass lockdowns then? Stopped from visiting their neighbors?
Were cinema houses, restaurants, parks and businesses shut down by force then?
Nope.
Think about it, we fought a nasty, brutal war and dealt with a pandemic that killed over 600,000 all at the same time, all without crushing our constitutional rights.
And you think the constitution can just be thrown aside by dictatorial governors because of coronavirus?
What is the use of having a constitution at all if you throw it away and become a hard line dictator like Whitmer the moment any crisis comes up?
