Dear Costco Member,
To help protect our employees and members, effective May 4, 2020, all Costco members and guests must wear a face covering that covers the mouth and nose, at all times while at Costco. This requirement does not apply to children under the age of 2 or to individuals who are unable to wear a face covering due to a medical condition.
Costco employees are required to wear face coverings, and now we are asking that Costco members do so too. We know some members may find this inconvenient or objectionable, but under the circumstances we believe the added safety is worth any inconvenience. This is not simply a matter of personal choice; a face covering protects not just the wearer, but others too.
In short, we believe this is the right thing to do under the current circumstances. Although some may disagree with this policy or question its effectiveness, were choosing to err on the side of safety in our shopping environments. Costco has continued to operate during this crisis as an essential business in all of our communities, and our employees are on the front lines. As part of a community, we believe this simple act of safety and courtesy is one that Costco members and employees can undertake together.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control recommends the use of face coverings in public settings where social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. CDC advises that face coverings can help slow the spread of the virus, including among those who are not aware they carry it. However, the use of a face covering should not be seen as a substitute for social distancing. Please continue to observe rules regarding appropriate distancing while at Costco.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Thank you,
Craig Jelinek
President and CEO, Costco Wholesale
An utterly stupid remark. And I know stupid remarks when I see them.
“I’m not the one insisting that you have a constitutional right to be a jackass.”
But you do. That’s why there is a constitution. Wouldn’t it be great if we all behaved as you saw fit? Then a constitution wouldn’t be needed. It would be kind of like ...
I can live with it. In most of the grocery sores I have been in people are wearing masks.
****Yes. Absolutely. Stand on your constitutional right to spread contagion. Were right behind you bro!****
You’ve been spreading contagion since you were born. Go hide in a hole.
Nonsense. I’ll be cancelling my Costco membership. I’ve been shopping there over 30 years. Adios.
We found earloop surgical masks at the grocery this week.
Made in China.
Aside from wondering if ChiCom cooties are an issue...
Why in Hades aren’t we making enough here yet?
We can crank out complicated equipment like ventilators in double time, but we can’t churn out earloop face masks?!
“This might become a requirement of many of the big retailers.”
I think you are correct on this. I will have to do some reading/research.
I think there a legal angle here, were they could be open to law suites if they do not require this.
If you catch the virus while shopping there, could Costco be liable if they do not enforce government recommendations?
Yep. Tried that once. Problem with mail order is that if the chocolates sit in a shipment (truck) on a sunny hot day, the eventually arrive with that kinda light brown overheated then cooled chocolate “crust” on them. It’s not a problem caused by Sander’s, it’s just that Costco treats the product better.
My son and I went to Microcenter (a computer store), they had a security guard and an employee at the door and would not let anyone in if they would not be disinfected, masks were optional, but required for employees.
I would have walked out but my son needed a computer part. As I was leaving (my son was already at the car) I went back and told them that I am allergic to the spray and if I had to go to the hospital they would have to pay the bill.
Life was so much better when we just took Bubonic plague, small pox, cholera and polio without mitigation as God intended.
This is getting out of control. I thought by now things would be getting better, saner.
The avalanche of lawsuits will be the next chapter in this story
Primo point. My daughter, an ICU nurse, tells me that she’s exposed to far worse stuff than this every day.
Most people don’t know that the owner of is total leftest. A real SJW true believer.
You’re right about Costco corporation being leftist but I’ve never seen a fiction section or any section for their books. Every Costco I’ve ever been in has had all books piled on a table.
I don’t mind wearing a mask in a store. It’s their property, they set the rules.
There is no legal angle here. Costco is a hardcore leftist corporation. That is all.

I love you flubros. Your unreasonability, irresponsibility and irrationality are manifest. Keep being jackasses - which is a slander on donkeys actually.
——Yes. Absolutely. Stand on your constitutional right to spread contagion. Were right behind you bro!-——
I’m not contagious... Jackson.
