Internet Speech Will Never Go Back to Normal
In the debate over freedom versus control of the global network, China was largely correct, and the U.S. was wrong.

COVID-19 has emboldened American tech platforms to emerge from their defensive crouch. Before the pandemic, they were targets of public outrage over life under their dominion. Today, the platforms are proudly collaborating with one another, and following government guidance, to censor harmful information related to the coronavirus.

Yes, we DO have monitoring and censoring going on, but it is not the “government” monitoring everyone, it is Liberal activists IN government and the MEDIA who are monitoring and censoring CONSEVATIVES ONLY.

A Freeper friend of mine was permanently blocked because he argued too vehemently (or effectively) for ending the lockdown and was told by the mod gods that We dont wish people dead out at FR.
That’s basically what happened to me. I was an adult in a room full of children and the child mods basically said I was making the kids mad because I was arguing against what they were being told.
I posted a lot of valid information and always argued just the facts. But I created shuch a chitstorm that the place was in upheaval over a lot of my threads. Many of them should have been temp banned for their responses, but at the end of the day, they didn’t want to ban 15 guys, so they banned me.
The quality of the site went down considerably (I have an alt at one that is “view only”). And the after the fact ad-hom was comical. I needed to get out of BOTH those sites anyway so I’m good.

Theres no doubt that far too many in the media are more than willing to do away with the Constitution and the concepts of freedom of speech and the freedom to protest the government, as long as their jobs are safe. Talk about idiocy - it's the First Amendment that allows them the freedom to speak at all. Shoot self in foot, step on own d!ck...

We need to make sure that, when weve made it past this crisis, our country isnt transformed into a place we dont want to live, warns the American Civil Liberties Unions Jay Stanley. Then file your lawsuits ye of almost unlimited funds. Too many of our elected officials now have had a taste of total power and they like it, so after this "emergency" there will be another "emergency", and another and another. This needs to end NOW!

...definitely getting worse. I mean people have been banned from FB for just posting the name “Tommy Robinson”...unless it is bashing him.
They’re all caving to the demands of nation states. The UK authorities were practically screaming at the YouTube exec at a hearing about why Tommy kept appearing in their “recommended or trending videos”. They just HAD to shut him down. When Tommy was de-platformed from FB/YT/etc. they just made up things he’d posted or published...could not point to anything you could verify.

The lockdown will be over by the end of the month. Which month? Which year? This lockdown or the next lockdown? If a Democrat wins in November, this is just the first lockdown.

Actually wore that album out and found it in an enhanced version along with “A Farewell to Kings”. Third concert I purposely got side seats to better watch Neil work. And he wrote all that great science fiction with a message wrapped up in song. May we all meet out on that horizon.

For many, few things are more seductive that raw power over one's fellows.
Nearly all think they will be the ones holding that power, come the revolution.
Come the revolution, everyone of proven loyalty, who has participated in the overthrow of one government, and has demonstrated skills in taking over a country becomes a danger to the new regime the inevitable instant that regime doesn't make all their dreams come true (it won't, it can't!). They will be rounded up, perhaps initially by invitation to attend award ceremonies, and ultimately tracked down one-by-one and shot on the spot...
No way any regime can survive revolutionaries embittered by the reality of what they have lost, and what the new masters fail to deliver..

In the great debate of the past two decades about freedom versus control of the network, China was largely right and the United States was largely wrong. Significant monitoring and speech control are inevitable components of a mature and flourishing internet, and governments must play a large role in these practices to ensure that the internet is compatible with a societys norms and values. BS. There's no excuse for government control of speech.
