In an exclusive interview with this reporter Wednesday, President of the Sergeants Benevolent Association, an NYPD union, Ed Mullins called New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio “an idiot” for instructing his officers to arrest people gathering in large groups after hundreds of Jewish people attended a funeral for a well-respected rabbi on Tuesday night.
“You can’t tell law enforcement to go out and violate people’s rights,” he said.
The grand rabbi from Williamsburg passed away. The community followed all guidance & wore masks. The Shomrim was there giving out masks if they saw somebody on the street with out a mask. Mullins, who has served in the NYPD for 38 years, said that the Jewish community regularly has large gatherings, and “what occurred last night is not new. This happens all the time. What occurred last night was different because the community was given out masks. They were trying to keep things organized.”
De Blasio’s reaction, however, was anything but sensitive to people of faith mourning the loss of a religious leader, Mullins told me. “Whatever treated him to go out and take a stance, he did it at a funeral for people of faith and I question what he’s doing by doing that,” he said.

Of special note is this quote from the head of the police union:

An antibody study of NYC ultra orthodox would probably show covid 19 rates well over the measured 21% of grocery shoppers.
So as someone said, what difference does it make?
OK, so are the cops going to “follow orders” or the Constitution?
Good. By the way the cops had worked with the Orthodox community to close off five blocks, limit the extension of this funeral to just that area, told them to wear masks (most did), and provided community resource officers to monitor the event. NYPD had given them a permit for the event.
So de Blasio attacked not only the Jewish community but NYPD with his (no doubt unconstitutional) “order.”
The truth is, Orthodox Jews are (generally) Republican.
Herr Wilhelm is merely making an example of those Jews who leave the ghetto.

The “Just following Orders” defense , after WW II, no longer holds water. Tin pot dictators can’t force Americans to violate human rights, even if the wear a policeman’s uniform. There is always an excuse-as they were for the Nazi’s to slay their real and imagined enemies. Give it to the Muslims, you try this on them and they will stab or shoot you, riot and burn neighbors. Tin pots do not like violent opposition and will give em a pass. Remember “Never Again!”
Did Wilhelm express any outrage when tens of thousands jammed together outside when the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds did their show for NYC?
