President Trump on Tuesday said the coronavirus is "going to go away," repeating a line he's said in the past that contradicts his own health experts. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the administration's leading infectious diseases expert, has said the deadly virus will not disappear, and the U.S. should be prepared for another wave in fall.
Mr. Trump, making the remarks in an East Room event with businesses that turned into a press conference, said a vaccine is looking promising, but he thinks the virus is going to go away, and if it does return in a "modified" form in fall the U.S. will handle it.
CBS News White House correspondent Ben Tracy asked, "Mr. President, you said at the top of your remarks that you feel the worst of the pandemic is behind us. But without a treatment, without a vaccine, and states now reopening, how can you be so sure?"
The president responded: "Well I think that like other things, we're going to hopefully we're going to come up with a vaccine, you never know about a vaccine, but tremendous progress has been made."
It isn't exactly clear from the president's remarks when he thinks the virus will go away.
Mr. Trump said on February 27 he though the virus would "disappear" like a "miracle. There were only 60 confirmed cases in the U.S. at the time of that remarks. He also stood by the claim that the virus would go away on April 3, when there were 273,880 cases.
"I said it was going away — and it is going away," he said earlier this month.

Q for CBS: When was the last time you saw a case of Spanish Flu? An epidemic of Bubonic Plague? MERS? SARS?
I’ve watched the conferences the article is misleading to the point of being a lie.
He said things like he hoped this would happen like with other viruses, maybe, but he didn’t know.
It will never go away as the flu never goes away. It will just be made more manageable and treatable.
Bacteria and viruses can come and go, but the fight against tyranny never ends.
And as has thus far proven the case, he will be right.
The media is our main enemy. China pales in comparison because the enemy within is always the more dangerous.
What is to be done about the media will come about in ways we do not yet know.
Based on past history of every other virus we’ve seen on the planet he’s correct.
In terms of it “going away” he has talked about the current situation eventually going away, and life returning to normal, which it most certainly will.
And then there’s herd immunity.
All viruses tend to mutate over time into less malicious forms.
Viruses can’t reproduce on their own. Thus a virus that kills it’s host becomes an evolutionary dead-ender.
Of course likely no one at CBS News stayed awake in ninth-grade biology long enough to learn that.
Translation: The heat and light of the warmer weather months of spring/summer with either kill the virus outright or lesson it.

Looks like everyone was stunned that herd immunity was in progress...and apparently well before we started with the mask and gloves etc etc.
We are not a third world country and I'm sure most of us had/have Clorox wipes etc etc and soap available and in regular use.

The flu changes each year. Flu season tends to end in May because of the warmer and longer days.
The media virus never goes away.
