Netflix and Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company have announced their latest film: “Becoming,” a documentary that follows Michelle as she goes on tour to promote her bestselling memoir of the same name.
Although the documentary was directed by Nadia Hallgren, it sounds like the film had extensive access to and input from Michelle Obama . After all, it was produced by Higher Ground Productions, the company the Obamas formed to create content for Netflix, Spotify and others.
And the announcement comes with a letter from Obama, in which she says this wasn’t just a standard book tour: “In groups large and small, young and old, unique and united, we came together and shared stories, filling those spaces with our joys, worries, and dreams.”
“American Factory,” the first film to come out of Higher Ground’s production deal with Netflix, won this year’s Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.
While Netflix and Higher Ground only announced the film today, it won’t be a long wait for its release — Netflix plans to launch “Becoming” in just over a week, on May 6.
Wow, it is a documentary about her book tour. What next? A book about the documentary?

In the political world, irony is in such rich supply, like water, that we tend to mostly ignore it.
Right now it’s ironic that Biden is in worse shape physically and mentally than even Hillary Clinton. It’s ironic that he is prevented from traveling to campaign since he would almost certainly have broken down by now.
It’s ironic that big cities full of ‘smart’ elites are crippled by the virus now because they attempted to brazen their way past it earlier in the year. It’s ironic that their cities are divided along Wellsian lines with the poor and homeless living among rich elites with the elites now imprisoned because the virus circulates among the rest.
And, it’s ironic that the bright stars known as The Obamas are now fading quickly. Actually, there’s compound irony here. Barack Obama would desperately love to be president-in-exile, making even more trouble than he is already. But frequent appearances would mean that he would eventually face tough detailed questions about Spygate and the rest. So he stays out of sight. But his newfound seclusion means that his coattail-riding wife is also sidelined to a degree.
Ironic that a media that would desperately love to shove the Obamas down our throats some more cannot or will not because they are now obsessed with defeating Trump despite a) losing to him repeatedly and b) relying on Joe Biden as their one and only vehicle.
Irony on top of irony.
Do we get the performance art about her having been on the Seine at the exact moment Notre Dame was burning-right at that location?
I’m sure that Netflix will fake the popularity and keep it in their top 10 trending shows until the election...

If you’re old enough, you may notice that the pre-Social Media and streaming TV Clintons followed a similar trajectory. I think we were off of CompuServe by then and just getting into bulletin boards. Except for the AOL weenies who couldn’t handle DOS prompts.
Bill was a superstar narcissist celeb similar to Obama, just with a different style. Slick Willy would have been more at home in Hollywood. Obama fancies himself a GQ deep thinker. He’s actually a typical marxist. A dumb as a post professional parrot. He hasn’t had an original thought in his head in his entire life. He outs himself when the teleprompter fails.
The Clintons were the celebrity Power Couple of their day. It’s fun to watch Bill fade out in the typical pattern of aging narcissists. He can no longer walk into any room and own it. Many people don’t even know who he is. He can’t stand it.
So he lives out his days in Little Rock, where people do indeed know him. They don’t think much of him, but, they know him and that’s what counts. He hangs out by the rooftop pool with rent-a-bimbos playing make believe.
Obama sits at home in front of his computer playing games and smoking weed. Note that he’s also in the land of make believe. Or maybe it’s more accurate to say augmented reality. He actually doesn’t give a rip about politics or America or anything that is not about *him*. He’ll make noises when ordered to by his overlords.
Sure am happy I canceled Netflix the MINUTE I heard they’d hired the Odungos.

Makes me all the more glad that I cancelled Netflix. I’ll re-sign on when Stranger Things season 4 hits, but that’s it.
