China has rolled out a digital currency trial in Xiongan, an area southwest of Beijing in the Hebei province, according to state-backed media reports. McDonalds, Starbucks and Subway are the only three American firms among 19 companies participating in the trial. The Peoples Bank of China (PBOC) has been working on a digital yuan for the past few years but has made clear that it has not yet officially launched.
McDonalds and Starbucks are among a handful of companies taking part in a new pilot program for Chinas upcoming digital yuan, according to state-backed media, as the worlds second-largest economy pushes forward with its plans for an electronic currency.

I don’t go to Starbucks, and I probably won’t be going back to McDonald’s for anything. Their burgers and french fries suck, and the only thing I ever liked were their breakfast sandwiches. During the lockdown they’ve stopped serving breakfast all day. A few weeks ago I went to the drive-thru around 5 p.m., after having gone grocery shopping, and decided I’d get a couple of sausage biscuits with egg and a hash brown for my supper. They told me they’d stopped serving breakfast at 2 p.m. I called to see if the other McDonald’s near me was also following the same schedule, and they were. I was put in touch with a woman who oversees the McDonald’s in the Utica/Rome, New York area, and she told me that once the lockdown is over, McDonald’s will more than likely not go back to the all-day breakfast. The woman said that most other McDonald’s across the country have gone back to their 10:30 a.m. weekday, and 11 a.m. weekend cut-off times for breakfast. The two restaurants in my area were unique as they waited until 2 p.m. to cut it off. McDonald’s also cut back on the menu offerings since the lockdown.
Will they still accept Aluminium?
Never go to ‘bucks now will not go to Mickies.
Sausage biscuits with egg from McD’s are excellent.
I found one place that sold them for $3.49 each - I saw on the dollar menu a sausage biscuit for $1 and the option to add ‘folded egg’ to any sandwich for $1 so, I ordered 3 sausage biscuits and 3 folded eggs
The moron millennial argued with me for 10 minutes that I couldn’t order it that way (I eventually did, and kept doing it every day just to annoy her)
McD’s will be the first to fully embrace the use of soylent green
Red China is moving to Blockchain digital currency for verifying business transactions. It will use it within its borders but is offering it to countries it has close ties to due to proximity or entangling loans/trade.
McDonald’s and Starbucks has to use it for its business within China or they will be forced out.
The USA and most western countries won’t want China’s version of Blockchain/digital currency as they know the China version will have spying built into it.
Blockchain and digital currency is likely to appear here as it allows the government to know every transaction and levy a tax on it. They think we who use cash aren’t taxed enough.
Can someone explain to me like I’m six years old what exactly digital currency is, and how it is different from currency we all use now?
I’m confused because when the economists speak of the “money supply”, the vast majority of the money supply consists of deposits in bank accounts, and not actual cash or coins. And the vast majority of transactions within those bank accounts are already electronically transmitted.
So how would digital dollars be different than the electronically transmitted dollars which show up in our bank account on payday?
I admit my ignorance, so would welcome explanations at a 6 year old level. Thanks.
I was able to reproduce my favorite sandwich at Subway a few years ago and this weekend I conquered the recipe for the Big Mac.
They won’t see me again.
Yeah, it’s too bad that McDonald’s has to be dorks. Another thing I won’t miss is their getting my order wrong 9 times out of 10 in the drive-thru. Why is it that they have to screw up so often when all you order is stuff on their menu without any special instructions?
This is interesting news. So a propped up currency, the yuan, is now being supplemented by a digital currency that is not supported by governments or banks.
Happy roller coaster ride to investors. Perhaps this is a harbinger that the Chinese yuan is going to collapse.
American manufacturers better pull out of China fast. Ah, but the Chinese won’t them pull their money out! How inconvenient.
Once a Communist, always a Communist. This does not end pretty.
Well it don’t matter to me. I NEVER go to the burned coffee shop since they wouldn’t open a store in Iraq for the troops years back. And, we rarely stop at Mickey D’s, so that is no loss. Here in Alabama, the best morning place to eat breakfast is Jack’s Hamburgers, which has great breakfast meals. You can go in and eat all types of breakfast meals, not just a biscuit, cheese and sausage.
My favorite tuna melt sandwich is the one from Friendly’s. We don’t have any of them close by. The last one is the Utica/Rome, NY area is in Utica, and I only get there when I have a doctor appointment down the street. I can recreate their loaded waffle fries, using Frito’s cheddar cheese dip, bacon bits, freeze dried chives, and sour cream. I also enjoy Subway’s tuna sandwich (untoasted), but I haven’t gotten any since the lockdown. I can make a tuna melt here if I really want one.
