True, but in the run-up to 2012 there wasn't a soul anywhere who was openly pro-obama; everyone who was pro-anything was reluctantly pro-romney.

Well they stole the house in 2018. Half a dozen repubs in Cali won on election day only to lose within a few extra days of ballot harvesting. One or two in other states as well. No one got upset, nothing got ugly. GOP, RNC and repubs in general were silent about it. Trump too.
