The Navy has recommended reinstating Capt. Brett Crozier as commander of the USS Theodore Roosevelt, according to reports, in a move that would be unprecedented.
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Michael Gilday and acting Navy Secretary James McPherson made the recommendation to Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Friday when briefing him about the results of the investigation into the coronavirus outbreak aboard the aircraft carrier. Esper asked for more time to consider whether to reinstate Crozier, the Times added.
In a statement Friday afternoon, chief Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said Esper is awaiting a written copy of the investigation to make a decision.
This afternoon, Secretary Esper received a verbal update from the acting secretary of the Navy and the chief of naval operations on the Navys preliminary inquiry into the COVID-19 outbreak on the USS Theodore Roosevelt," Hoffman said.
"After the secretary receives a written copy of the completed inquiry, he intends to thoroughly review the report and will meet again with Navy leadership to discuss next steps. He remains focused on and committed to restoring the full health of the crew and getting the ship at sea again soon.
Following the reports, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith (D-Calif.) called on Esper to reinstate Crozier "immediately." A congressional aide said Smith has not yet been briefed on the investigation.
"While Capt. Croziers actions at the outset of the health crisis aboard the TR were drastic and imperfect, it is clear he only took such steps to protect his crew," Smith said in a statement. Not only did Captain Crozier have the full support of his crew, he also attempted to work within his chain of command. During this time of crisis, Capt. Crozier is exactly what our sailors need: a leader who inspires confidence."

Navy issue, navy decision. Semper Fi.
They must be short on O6’s that can fly anything more that a golf cart.
This means to me that the Captain likely had his hand forced when he improperly emailed his complaints. If he is being recommended for reinstatement, it would seem to indicate that the issue was somewhere in his chain of command.
Adam Smith actually represents WA (not CA), the super-ghetto parts of King County... and is a piece of liberal shit.
I trust the Navy brass, but I wouldn’t give this Crozier guy command of anything but a shiny desk.
So, will there be some consequences in his chain-of-command if what you write is correct?
No, I don't think so.
The Secretary of Defense had the final word.
If he goes back to that same ship, the conflict may start anew. There was a certain officer on that ship that this captain has never gotten along with. Don’t put those two back together. They’ll be locking horns in no time. It will divide the crew. Give him a different ship to command.
Readiness ratings and issues were always classified when I was in the military. If what I read about this is true the release of readiness information in an unclassified email is certainly grounds for relief. But then again, you have the Clinton precedent in the background these days don’t we?
Don’t take it Cap’n! There will always be those in the Pentagon who hold it against you.
It will makee Trump look bad. I say ask for the blessing of Nancy/Chuck.
I believe that there already has been a change in the chain of command. Someone was forced to resign, but I can’t remember who. I think it might have been the one who spent a quarter million on the trip out to address the carrier’s crew.
Bad call. Crozier should have been fired and should remain fired. There is little if any room for poor judgement at that level and with the awesome firepower at his fingertips.
They must be short on O6s that can fly anything more that a golf cart.

But Im sure that they have no shortage of O6 Diversity Office Directors who could be diverted to captain an Aircraft Carrier. I know that that would require a change in the law but to not do it would be sexist or racist .... or something.
The guy that put our national security at risk by informing the world that we had a crippled war ship.
What would happen during a war when his ship was ordered to take a certain action and he disagreed with it.
Dont take it Capn! There will always be those in the Pentagon who hold it against you.

As they should, IMHO.
Agree on every word
What makes you so sure of that? Who is that officer?
Well, it doesn’t exactly take a genius to run into things.
I do agree with that. His career is over and like someone said, there’s no room for mistakes at that level.
