Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz stressed the new state approach of dialing up or down restrictions goes both ways and that businesses need to be prepared for renewed restrictions.
An estimated 80,000 to 100,000 employees could return to work Monday under a plan by Gov. Tim Walz to dial back the states stay-at-home order, which was imposed to reduce or delay the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The move is tailored to manufacturers and offices that dont have face-to-face interaction with clients and werent deemed critical industries that were exempt from the stay-at-home order.
Roughly 20,000 companies in this category now have the option to reopen if they complete and publicize plans to maintain social distancing, worker hygiene and workspace cleanliness, said Steve Grove, commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
This is a limited first step in the process of safely reopening some businesses and returning Minnesotans to work, he said.
The move puts Minnesota in a fairly aggressive posture compared with other states, which have been adhering to the White Houses Open Up America Again Guidelines to pursue only a phased comeback once they have seen 14 consecutive days of declines in COVID-19 cases. But Walz and state officials said the decision was science-based and not open-ended like the plan to restart almost all businesses in Georgia that even President Donald Trump has criticized. The move also does not change the rest of the stay-home order, which remains in effect until May 4, or recommendations for people to continue to work from home if they can.

So he is basically doing exactly what Kemp did by blowing off Fauci’s 14 day guideline.
Since he’s a Democrat how will the press react if Trump slams him?
As ridiculus as it may sounds, they will somehow blame Trump.
IMHO, this is caused by pressure from public employee unions, whose members are about to lose jobs. The states HAVE TO HAVE THE TAX REVENUE!
Good luck on getting those on enhanced unemployment back to work.
They ain’t coming back until the unemployment runs out.
Why work when you get “paid” more to stay home.

Deaths per million of population:
Minnesota 40
Georgia 87
Someh, I think law firms are rubbing their hands with glee. “He didn’t wear a mask, and gave it to my client!”
Hospitalized as of today: 278; Hospitalized in ICU as of today: 111. 138 of the 221 deaths occurred in one county--Hennepin, the most populous county in Minnesota and the 32nd-most populous county in the United States; more than one in five Minnesotans live in Hennepin County.

It’s going to be part and parcel of opening up again everywhere - employess and customers who come down with the virus will be suing businesses. I also expect suits by victims aimed at governments that open if the virus comes raging back.
Interesting (to me, at least) that the title makes no specific mention of American citizens who live in MN returning to work... Just "workers"...
Somalians ecstatic...
Somalis are pretty much low level/unskilled workers, such as cab drivers. This is geared toward office workers who have little or no public contact, more white collar.
Peak death rate in Georgia was 3-4 April which is when Kemp issued his shutdown, i.e. deaths had already peaked. In MIN deaths are peaking now and he did his shutdown orders on March 15-16. One difference is Georgia started much earlier with two funerals (late Feb and early March). With those they created a voluntary shutdown situation because so many people were catching the virus and getting seriously ill.
The lesson is simple, you have to take your medicine. You can pretend that being shutdown forever will stop the virus but that just delays the inevitable.
Roger that... Thxs...

I don’t know of anyone calling for s “shutdown forever”. And there is no medicine to take - the only hope in that regard is a vaccine, which may or may not occur.
Trump had little alternative given what was happening in Wuhan and Italy. Lockdowns were occurring throughout Europe. The WHO was estimating 3% to 4% mortality rates. It was a novel virus, i.e., little was known about it. To date, there have been 2.8 million cases worldwide and 196k deaths including over 50k in the US. These figures are understated by a lot given Chinas ridiculous low numbers.
I dont fault Trump for his initial decisions. I agree that Fauci and Birx are Deep State along with Redfield, CDC. Trump needs to change course now that we have more data. He made a mistake going after Kemp. We should stop terrifying the public. You can help businesses survive thru subsidies, but they will still go under if the consumer is afraid to shop or use the services. I wish Trump would dedicate one briefing session to explain to the public how low risk the virus is to most people.
The Minnesota governor heard from the 500,000 fisherman whose opener would have been blocked. Tim Walz (Dem) wanted monday, May 15 to start “allowing” companies to open. The fishing opener is May 13th a saturday and 500,000 go fishing that weekend.
He then changed it to May 1 for “allowing” companies to open.
It is April 24 now. This thing is over except in those states like California where the governor is doing $1 billion in money laundering with the Chinese for masks that are the wrong type and probably defective and will never be delivered. He says 200,000 masks a month!!
Meanwhile in Newport beach some 40,000 people showed up at the beach!! On a friday and the reporter who was wearing a mask while everyone else was in the swim trunks (men!) or bikinis (women)!!! said that was double the number of people from yesterday.
The media and mayor are driving this hysteria while the people know it is over.
A good step, but not much help to small businesses. In two weeks the walleye season opens in Minnesota... this is a huge thing in Minnesota. Resorts, local restaurants, marinas and bait shops are still closed. Many of the lake resort cabins are family run small businesses that are booked for opening weekend sometimes years in advance. They are not year round resorts and the May-October bookings are their only income. While public boat ramps and state park campgrounds are open, these resorts are where many stay for opening weekend. Small town restaurants and bars in these lake areas are also closed by Governors order. The continued shutdown will be the end of these small businesses and northern Minnesota will be devastated by Gov. Walzs poor judgement. There has been no spike in new Corona virus cases, hospitals have not been overrun and healthcare personnel are being furloughed due to the lack of patients
Not a fisherman. but ages ago I spent some time on the shores of Mille Lacs so I know what ya mean.
