Despite the devastating economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, Britain is making scant effort to negotiate a far-reaching free trade deal in the wake of Brexit that would stave off a costly final separation at the end of the year, the European Union said Friday.
EU negotiatior Michel Barnier said his British counterparts keep insisting on unrealistic deadlines and demands that could only lead to a chaotic trade rupture which would mount economic losses on both sides on top of those already expected from the coronavirus crisis.
I am worried, Barnier said after what he described as another week of disappointing video negotiations between both sides. Barnier said Britain had made it clear it would not seek an extension to the transition period beyond Dec. 31, even though it could get one of up to two years.

Even after Brexit, the EU is still trying to stick it to the UK and especially BoJo. The EU should back down and let the U.K. maintain their trade status.
That’s not the nature of the EU, unless under threat of force.

Remember when there was no EU? Remember nation states of Europe that were more dynamic,independent,culturally distinct and economically viable? It is ironic that the Cold War ended and the Communism blanket was taken off and Western Europe decided to replace the Soviet Union with a Fascist version of themselves while Eastern Europe has had a total renaissance.
Technically, the EU has been around for 77 years, having started as the European Coal and Steel Community; the Germany-Italy axis was re-forged with that treaty while adding the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. The plan was always to vacuum up the culturally distinct nation states into their identityless empire.
