LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- As the oil industry's future remains in question, AIR7 HD spotted dozens of oil tankers docked in the waters off the coast of Long Beach on Tuesday.
ABC7 is working to find out more on why and if it has anything to do with what's currently happening with oil prices.
Oil prices tanked below zero on Monday as demand for energy was collapsing amid the coronavirus pandemic, and traders don't want to get stuck owning crude with nowhere to store it.
Demand for oil has collapsed so much due to the coronavirus pandemic that facilities for storing crude are nearly full.
I hope that US Coast Guard is vigilant...What if some Islamic terrorists try to sink some oil tankers? Maybe that is far-fetched...
I do remember the famous oil tanker from THE SPY WHO LOVED ME...The submarines were inside the tanker...
Wasn’t just the virus... oil war started before that.
Sitting here waiting for a major oil spill.
It should be pretty simple to investigate. Take the name of the ship, call up the owner and ask who’s crude it is.
Wow, some actual INVESTIGATING!!!
Governor Newsome says:
“All California residents are to report to the shoreline with a bucket. Each CA resident, legal or otherwise, will be required to store said bucket of crude oil in their home or on their person at all times, safeguarding it for future use once this ‘manufactured crisis’ has passed.
You will not be compensated in any way for your assistance. If one DROP of crude is spilled, you will pay a hefty fine!
You have your Marching Orders. Now, GO!”
Good time to put more in the strategic reserve.
Good bet part of the flotilla is waiting for the Russians and the Saudis to make a deal, lower their production goals, and see a rise in the price of oil follow. Then some of the tankers will come ashore. A good sign of that would be helicopters making delivery of supplies regularly to the tanker crews.
The best performing stocks of the last two weeks are the Tankers, because their day rates are skyrocketing due to the need to store oil. Full disclosure, I’ve had NAT for a while.
The Enviro-Weenies will be having a field day with this situation! What if a fish or a turtle or, gawd forbid, a WHALE gets hurt? ;)
Stupid reporter doesn’t know the difference between “docked” and anchored.
Those tankers appear to be in ballast, empty judging by the waterlines. The cargo tanks are inerted with exhaust gas. Inspected many of them when I was stationed in LA/LB.
Gunner
I believe the President has already ordered it to be filled to the brim. Time to think of creating additional storage sites.
Empty? What’s the point? You know?
Remember the doomsday scenario of the Strait of Hormuz being blocked? Different world.
Those tankers look empty. Look at how high they are riding in the water.

Very funny...
Governor of CA may be worse than Governor of Wisconsin...
Those are riding high.
Drive down to Ocean Blvd in Long Beach...You should be able to see the tankers from that location...
In your photo, 4 show an orange band and seem empty.
Thse sitting low in the water with no orange/brown band are full.
I am guessing those are empty tankers waiting to be filled at the terminals in Long Beach. Oil is cheap so everyone is filling up their storage. Likely Asia-bound tankers.
