Health officials in Sweden say the country's relatively relaxed COVID-19 prevention and mitigation strategies may be working to flatten the cure of new COVID-19 infections.
"We're on a sort of plateau," Anders Tegnell, Sweden's top state epidemiologist who designed the nation's COVID-19 strategy, told Swedish news outlet TT, Bloomberg News reported Sunday.
Karin Tegmark Wisell, head of the microbiology department at Sweden's Public Health Authority, on Friday also said the number of COVID-19 cases in the country appears to be "stabilizing," according to the report.
"The trend we have seen in recent days, with a more flat curve — where we have many new cases, but not a daily increase — is stabilizing. We are seeing the same pattern for patients in intensive care," Wisell said.
According to Johns Hopkins University, Sweeden has reported 14,385 cases of COVID-19 and experienced 1,540 resulting deaths.
The death toll in Sweden is higher than those in the Scandinavian region of Europe, which also includes Denmark and Norway — countries with smaller populations — but it falls significantly below those of Italy, Spain, and the UK, Bloomberg News reported.
As Business Insider previously noted, the country's actions are in contrast to those of neighboring Denmark, which put its citizens on a mandatory lockdown order before any reported deaths from the disease had been reported in the country.
Denmark has experienced 7,580 reported cases of novel coronavirus infections and 355 deaths, according to data from Hopkins, though the population of Sweden stands at about double than that of Denmark, according to Eurostat.

Uh, wasn’t one explanation for hard-hit Italy was that closing just the schools at first left a lot of free time for students to hit the bars, sporting events, etc., accelerating the spread of the WuFlu?
Maybe Sweden got this one right. Or maybe not...if their compliant, "educated," largely homogenous mindset spawns thoudpsands of COVID deaths at Christmas during Wave II, I guess they'll say "whoops...my bad."
It pains me to see millions of Americans out of work and whole sectors being ravaged. I pray the American way wins in the long run. Regardless, the day I look beyond our borders for wisdom on what's best for us, is the day I surrender my passport.

my understanding is that they are confirmed cases.
So this number gives us an idea of mortality rate among confirmed cases.
We dont have any idea how many have the virus unless everyone is tested and tested frequently.
This just kills the Control Freaks and Fauci Fluffers. Some of each are on this forum, too.

No. Reported cases is practically meaningless. Depends on who you test, and how many. Varies hugely.
Overall mortality is what counts. Deaths per million.

Actually, latest studies say most cases are transferred inside, among family members and very close associates. Italian families have multiple generations living together. Plus aged population, plus huge air pollution in hotspots. Unique.
Sweden was smarter than us, period. And still is, each day, as long as we continue this insane, unjustified shutdown. Every day, almost 1 million people in America lose their job. Every. Day.
Swedens entire population = that of NYC. I agree with Swedens approach. You never want friends and family to die but this is how nature works. It culls the weak so that the strong survive.
because they arent testing. They only know you have it if you are extremely sick. Test everyone and mortality rate goes down 100 fold.
Sweden has had 1580 deaths as of 20.April I.e 156/ million
Denmark + Norway + Finland + Iceland have had 643 deaths ie 40 deaths per million
