It’s almost like a form of herd immunity. They need to brainwash 100% of the kids in government schools. Any homeschooled kids might “infect” the others with dangerous ideas and knowledge.
Virtual learning has shown parents and students just how little work the kids actually do during a normal 7hour school day.
My son is a junior at a well respected private school in Atlanta. He’s in as many AP classes as he can take based on the curriculum. He has 2-3 hours of work per day assigned in virtual learning.
My daughter is a sixth grader at a public magnet program that is very difficult to test into. She has 1-2 hours of work per day.
Both say they are learning the same amount as before... it is just that they don’t have to have a teacher “teach” something verbally that they can read in a book, in a fraction of the time.
I keep asking my wife “I wonder if private schools are aware of what they are telling us about the money we are spending?”
Academia is suddenly realizing that their days of deceitful indoctrination may be numbered.
On-line education is far more accessible, far cheaper, and far more decentralized.
What’s going to become of all the unemployed, liberal arts professor nerds ?

Indoctrination doesn’t work as well remotely.

All of the Ivy League schools are infected with an irreversible sickness cause by isolation from reality. Disregard what this mutt says.

1) She assumes without evidence that homeschooling necessarily excludes all the above.
2) Besides ignoring the Three R’s, she expresses no interest in children learning how to think — at all, much less for themselves.
3) So the role of mass schools is leftist socialization and indoctrination to a particular set of values, that just happen to be hers.
4) How can mass schools convey “tolerance of other people’s viewpoints” while pushing the idea that it’s intolerable for people to teach diverse viewpoints to their own children?
5) I think she is in a panic because the coronavirus lockdown is going to open up vast avenues for individual learning. Online resources will bloom. The vast sums spent on public education will be called into question. Another large tranche of children will be pulled away from the indoctrination/union enrichment racket. Hybridized systems will allow diversification of choice for parents, much better learning opportunities for children. Some will be positioned to take advantage of it.
6) I suspect the author fears that minorities will fall further behind.
Children given a break from Communist Indoctrination of public school is an unexpected blessing of CV-19.
