The state of New York is now allowing marriage ceremonies to take place on video conferencing platforms like FaceTime, with an executive order enabling couples to get married via a video link while maintaining social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.

After all, all our society has done in the last 75 years is weaken the institution of marriage until it's virtually meaningless anymore.
Then we can make divorce even easier too! All you have to do is turn around counter-clockwise three times with one shoe off and spit in your palm and voila! Oh, and if you're a man, write a check for half of everything you're worth and sign over your children.
Well, just make sure your phone doesn’t have any malware before getting married....
Since its nothing more than a legal arrangement, the marriage ceremony is no different than a court proceeding. And if New York allows court hearings to be held online, then why would this be any different?
This is great. This is facilitated with Zoom’s new add-on applications ‘RING’, ‘KISS’.
Available in next release, ‘STOMP-GLASS’ and ‘THROW-BOUQUET’.
I'm waiting for "CONSUMMATE" and "BLOODY SHEET". Now -that- is an application.
I just facetiously presumed the soon-to-be newlyweds would call in separately, and there would be a minimum in the gallery of 3 - husband, wife and priest. But, this is NY, and perhaps the merry couple would in actuality be required to call in separately.
You may now cyberkiss the bride.
Then you can go off to the same honeymoon video together and have simulated sex.
Personally, I’d tell my finacee to wait it out until we could have a REAL wedding.
Imagine claiming someone hacked your account and is now your spouse.
Why?
That’s my point. The religious dimension has been thoroughly excised from the institution. It’s no more formalized than a wink and a nudge.
True, but that happened when the state got involved in licensing marriages in the first place. It has nothing to do with whether the state has “wedding” events live or online.
