Save the country by quickly reopening the economy
Washington Examiner ^ | April 17, 2020 | Eddie Scarry

Keeping the U.S. economy indefinitely closed will very literally destroy the country as we know it.

We've taken extraordinary measures for more than a month to avoid the worst-case public health scenario, but those steps have resulted in north of an unprecedented 22 million jobless claims. We now have to recalibrate our response and address the economic devastation.

Any mention of that fact is greeted by Democrats and liberals in the media as a gleeful invitation to kill a million citizens, but here are the facts: From everything we’ve seen so far, the coronavirus is statistically deadly for a minority of people. The vast majority of those who die from the infection are elderly or have underlying health conditions. Most others recover on their own after two weeks at most, if they experience symptoms at all. Every death is tragic, and young and healthy people are not immune from the effects. But on the other side, young people are also shouldering a disproportionate share of the economic burdens caused by lockdown orders. A recent Data for Progress survey found that more than half of voters under 45 have "already lost their job, been furloughed, placed on temporary leave, or had [their] hours reduced.”

A new strategy will have to hyper-focus on people in vulnerable populations taking extra precautions while allowing those who are younger and healthier to return to work. A recent proposal by policy analysts Lanhee Chen, Bob Kocher, and Avik Roy at the Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity lays out an approach along those lines. It would have that governments lift stay-at-home orders for most non-elderly individuals.

Methinks the revolt has started.

The bottom of slime NPR has evidently reported that Trump is trying to initiate armed resistance to state governors.

Fascinating to see what a liberal arts “eddikashun” produces on our networks.

Place a 100% federal tax on rents and mortgages above $500.

Dear Tenant:

Your $499 rent is due May 1.

Opening the country will make it vary difficult for Biden to defeat Trump, if the economy comes roaring back.

Democrats are fully prepared to sacrifice prosperity so that their leftist agenda can prevail.

The author seems to be delusional here. For one thing, I have read about hardly any cases where “stay-at-home” orders are even being enforced.

The bigger problem is the business shutdowns. And the biggest problem of all is that many businesses are likely to be in serious distress — if not insolvent — even if they were allowed to open TODAY.

this is part of the overall problem for years….the government deliberately using the tax code to influence & manipulate behavior.

We will open slowly. Then, all at once.

Trump, please exert some pressure to get the tests of Hydroxychloroquine done, starting this week.

Once it has been established to work, you can arrange for Americans to begin receiving a prophelactic dosage of the drug, and get back to work. With a prescription, of course. From their doctor.

I am not a doctor, true, but I really believe it is that simple.

It is waiting, on all of the studies.

Studies. While thousands of Americans continue to fall victim.

Thousands, even now.

The sooner you develop anti-bodies in your blood, sooner your life will be liberated from lockdowns & masks.

If you are healthy, get around, and if you acquire covid-19, chances are 70:30 you will be asymptomatic and your body will create anti-bodies so you won’t get infected again any time soon. And you won’t therefore infect others. If you do get symptoms and become ill, there is 99% chance you will recover and walk out of the hospital with anti-bodies sloshing through your veins and become immune.

Non-essential businesses are non-essential.

Only a coronavirus vaccine will revive them.

Daily vaccination quotas

Maybe we should have CV parties like we used to have with measles.

Growing up in India, my mother did not need to get a prescription to buy chlroquine from pharmacies. Her diligence in stuffing that bitter tasting medicine down into us kids saved us from becoming sick with malaria. Obviously I did not suffer any short term or long term harm from the med. Just turned 80 and require zero visits to the doctor. And played thousands of rounds of golf, playing with single digit handicap.

I don’t think the country shut itself down when measles was the infection du jour.

Amgen makes a product Neupogen that boosts the immune system.

It might cut the death rate significantly.

Plasma made from children might be effective.

We have far more children than verified 28-day coronavirus survivors.

“Money is not an economy. Money is a medium of exchange within an economy where people grow things, make things, move things, and serve each other in countless ways. We’re not going to replace all those growings, makings, movings, and services by just giving people money.” Jim Kunstler

If the federal government didn’t spend $2 trillion many landlords would be getting zilch.

What do you think about unemployment insurance?
