Washingtons response to the Covid-19 pandemic is upending one of the most durable patterns of American politics. Throughout history, national emergencies have led to a more powerful and centralized federal government and to the transfer of federal power from Congress to the executive branch. This time, the federal response rests largely on state and local government and private enterprise, with a wave of deregulation clearing the way.
...
Mr. Trump has received criticism from all sides for these measured responses. It is said, on the one hand, that he should aggressively commandeer state police powers and industrial resources to mount a uniform national responseand, on the other (sometimes by the same critics), that the crisis will sooner or later unleash the authoritarian ambitions Mr. Trump has supposedly been harboring all along.
But mainly he has given pride of place to federalism and private enterpriselauding the patriotism and proficiency of our fantastic governors and mayors, our incredible business leaders and genius companies, our heroic doctors and nurses and orderlies, and our tremendous truckers. By shouting out many of them by name and documenting their deeds on a daily basis, he has vivified the American way in action (once reluctantly aroused). When asked why he has not issued orders for nationwide home and business lockdowns, he has emphasized that the intensity of the epidemic varies widely and is best met by calibrated state and local judgmentsand added pointedly that such steps would conflict with the Constitution.

Opinion piece by Christopher DeMuth, and a good one. At least up until I hit the damn paywall.
I keep hearing that Mr. Trump is a would-be dictator. If he is trying to be a dictator, he’s doing a terrible job at it.
It’s almost like he is trying respect our individual liberties and constitutional structure.

I see nothing but good things flowing from this description. Am I wrong?
Whats with the article by Piers Morgan?
Thank you for that. Excellent read!!
Thank you.
Funny isn’t it, how the commies were saying that Trump is “literally Hitler” and the Alphabet People were “going to be “made illegal and persecuted.”
The only benefit to come out of this is the experience and the preparations Trump will have made for the next Chinese pandemic. Now the terrorist of the world know how to bring the world to its knees with very little expense or trouble. How hard would it be for a terrorist or Bill Gates to pay one of these lab techs to infect himself with COVID 20 and start all over again? Gates only needs to eliminate 7 billion more people to fulfill his dream.
later
Let’s hope that many of the regulations they waived never get reinstated.
Experience and preparation means we will be ready for the next attack.
And if Gates bribed someone to let loose the current WuhanVirus, then charge him with murder and terrorism, bring him to trial, and, when found guilty, sentence him.

When the Governors band together and demand cash bailouts for the “effects of the crises,” what will Congress do? Ignore their states?
Sooner or later some group will demand $$$ based on population, or perhaps a nice, round, 5.35 Trillion, 10 billion per Congressional delegate. You know, “to keep it fair.”
You know it’s coming. Who will resist, besides Trump and the House Freedom Caucus? It will be veeeeery tempting for Congress to go along.
Now if we could repeal the 17th Amendment we would have representatives of the 50 state governments to keep the feds in check.
Is the sky pink or green in your world?
(And Gates is correct to worry about the population explosion in Africa where many countries constantly teeter on the brink of mass starvation; the last thing they need is millions more mouths to feed.)
Im certainly glad I dont live in your world. Do you want to kill all 1.2 billion Africans to save them? Look at you, population abortionist.
1) Does not the Creator decide who is born, who lives, and who dies?
2) If man interferes with a life to end it, is that not murder?
3) There is plenty of food in the world to feed Africa. We make our farmers pour thousands and thousands of gallons of milk on the ground in order to control prices.
4) As Bob Dylan has colloquially sung, “It cost more to store the food than it do to give it.”
5) If Bill Gates is worried about starvation he should send food, and money to dig wells, not try to play God with population control.
