“A sea change” in attitudes about the coronavirus
NBC News ^ | Apr 19, 2020 | Mark Murray

A new NBC News/WSJ poll also shows how the past month has changed Americans’ attitudes about the coronavirus.

In March, 53 percent of voters said they’re worried that someone in their immediate family would catch the disease. Now it’s 73 percent.

Also in March, a combined 26 percent said the coronavirus has changed their day-to-day life in a “very” or “fairly” major way. Now it’s 77 percent.

‘Good luck to both of us!’

indeed; all of us, regardless of our state and status, could use a hefty dose of good luck...

Did I not ask you when you were going to do your civil disobedience event. I told I would come. What more do you want?

Did you think I was mocking you? I was serious. If you are within a days drive of Mass, I am with you.

How else would a “real patriot” stand up? By posting on the backwater of conservative forums?

You guys are simply not angry enough, yet.

And our hospital is always looking for good gas passers. You and I could be sitting in the back yard sharing a beer. Well...maybe not now. It looks like rain.

Thank you for the well wishes for my wife. We finished two weeks ago, but its going to be another couple of months before we are out of the woods on immunity, and we will probably never be out of the woods with the PC.

‘Danny would rather pass stringent laws limiting the ability of people to travel’

oh, I don’t know; he seems decent enough...he believes what he’s preaching, and like most preachers, he won’t accept being wrong without putting up a stiff, if misguided fight...

We have a flu vaccine? Since when? I want one so I don’t have to get the flu shot every year

"I am absolutely stunned at the number of seemingly intelligent posters who are so “tied” to a model. You think because the circumstances changed, that lower numbers indicate a lie. That has to be an example of the most close minded, pig headed type of thinking there is."

I didn't accuse anyone of lying, nor do I think I implied they were lying. I said that - early on, even into late February and early March - prominent health officials suggested that - although we needed to be alert - the average person probably didn't have that much to fear from the corona virus.

I said they were wrong, not that they were lying. And I said that the early numbers supported what they were saying, i.e., that we did not see a spike in cases until mid-March, and a spike in deaths until early April.

It seems that the main problems with the early projections were that the incubation period was much longer than thought, and the virus was more easily spread than originally thought, possibly because many people were asymptomatic or showed only minor symptoms.

And most of them cannot figure out how an on call pager or Doc Halo installation goes.

You probably think I am impressed by him being a doc. I am impressed by anyone who does the things they do in the OR.

Outside the OR, they are just people. And most of them are so smart in their specialty they never took the time to acclimate to the rest of the world.

Some are good with tech outside their field. But go look at surveys about using EMR systems. They are confused and frustrated by something that their staffs learned in a weekend.

They (You) are part of a big system. It is important to remember that. Because without the pager...that patient you saved is going to die too. Without the right vent, in the right OR...his job is over before it starts.

So, try again.

And 34,000+ deaths so far this year. That could change as it’s only an estimate. Plus, normal flu season is almost over. I think I read it could last until May. Let’s hope the coronavirus season is almost over.

I also wonder how many folks dying from the regular flu are being counted as a coronavirus death...either by accident or on purpose.

Thanks for the link. Lot of good info there.

I’d like to see the same rigor that you demand being applied to the “Xtythousand flu deaths every year” numbers that the flubros toss around, but it ain’t gonna happen.

Like every 9/11 truther I’ve ever spoken with, it’s just easier to assume that all the information that supports my argument is valid, and any opposing facts are “lies of the conspiracy”.

Why are you dismissing comparisons to deaths by auto accidents as apples and oranges? Isn’t the goal of all this to reduce DEATH? If that’s the case I’m certain you favor permanent restrictions on driving to essential driving only? You know, only to work and back, once a week for groceries, maybe to church. No leisure driving. If traveling you must use mass transport only .. certainly would save thousands of lives and prevent unnecessary deaths. I mean why are Chinese Flu deaths more newsworthy and important than any death?

I am an anesthesiologist, am a critical care anesthesiologist, working in intensive care units. I truly wish you and your wife the best. Believe me I am angry, but in the immortal words of a hymn sung through Chritian churches:

I cannot be a prophet standing high on Zions wall,
I can be like faithful Arron, stretching out the prophets hand.

Right now I am treating people and taking care of a family — I am a single father with a child barred from attending her (Christian) high school. But I can speak the truth and hope some will listen

Blessings to you, and prayers for life and health. Perhaps we do have some commonality. Sorry for becoming emotional and passionate in speech — my Achilles heel no doubt,

I appreciate the kind words from MOM_Md, one thing you do not know, I never use my title in or out of the hospital . I am all to aware that I am just a person with a part in the overall system.

The NYC statistics are a leading indicator. They provided a very large, hugely disproportionate, percentage of the deaths.

And now, their statistics on hospitalizations and deaths are dropping rapidly, with hospitalizations having peaked on April 6, and deaths peaked on April 7.

The constant negative drumbeat spewed out by the media it’s amazing that the figure wasn’t 99%. The goal of the media is to scare the bejeezus out of people.

I used to post in big bold letters “Automate Driving” all the time on Free republic.

But now it has momentum. I don’t think it requires my cheerleading.

And if you think about driving deaths, the government has long intervened with lots of regulations to reduce driving deaths. Everything from seat belts, to red lights, to road design, bumper design, etc.

Car accident deaths don’t spread like a virus. They grow exponentially if you do nothing. Coronavirus does.

You don’t get in a car accident when you are sitting in an office at work.
