“A sea change” in attitudes about the coronavirus
NBC News ^ | Apr 19, 2020 | Mark Murray

A new NBC News/WSJ poll also shows how the past month has changed Americans’ attitudes about the coronavirus.

In March, 53 percent of voters said they’re worried that someone in their immediate family would catch the disease. Now it’s 73 percent.

Also in March, a combined 26 percent said the coronavirus has changed their day-to-day life in a “very” or “fairly” major way. Now it’s 77 percent.

You asked how to maintain your liberty. We have already determined you are too much of a coward to be civilly disobedient, so lying is the next best thing.

What are YOU doing to stop this?

The numbers might be fudged, from what I’m reading, but yesterday there was something in the neighborhood of 40,000 dead. That’s a lot.

That is a lot of deaths. It's about the same number of people a year who die in motor vehicle accidents, but motor vehicles are still legal. Its also about a 1/10th the number of smoking related deaths, but tobacco is still legal.

I owned tow restaurants for 22 years of my life and I can guarantee you that if I still owned those restaurants they would be OPEN!! I would sue the pants off of them for the fines forced on me we have rights in this country and keeping us locked up under ANY circumstances is NOT in the Bill of Rights!!!

Has nothing to do with a shut down... 9 out of 10 businesses were open, traffic was heavy and stores mostly crowded...yes, people were mindful of social distancing, to some degree...not much really changed except schools closed and take out food was prevalent.

I’ve seen cars go around the railroad crossing gates and cross the track regardless.

But every once in a while they get hit by the train and get a darwin award.

For people who have to cross the tracks because they are in essential businesses, it helps then that the rest of us aren’t also trying to cross the tracks.

Ever had to stop on the tracks because the cars you thought were moving ahead of you stopped and you had nowhere to go? It’s not a fun feeling.

LOL - thanks. No, I don’t think I’m particularly fragile either...I exercise 2-3 times a week and have taken immune-supporting supplements (C, D, et al) for 15+ years. Blood lipids tend to be regularly somewhat out of whack but a cardiac stress test/echocardiogram 2 years ago was good. I appreciate your input.

I was very concerned when it first hit. My concern was about overloading the health care facilities, initial high RO values, unknown outcome variables, and finally no known treatment. Now these concerns have been lowered in my mind. Is it a threat, yes. Is it worth hiding in the house for 3 months no. I would prefer people perform their own risk assessment and decide how to proceed. It does not warrant keeping the economy shut down.

So am I a flubro? I don’t think so but I understand their point of view better now.

I still think we should kick China’s ass.

MD Mom is more than capable of responding.

I am well aware of civics.

When there is an unjust law you change it. When there is an illegal law you have no obligation to follow it.

So, can you direct me to the place where you will be exercising your stolen liberties tomorrow? I will gleefully come there in my car and join you. There should be thousands protesting with you.

Can you send me a link to your organizing location?

I AM comfortable. I saw this coming. If you had brains enough to be a Gas Dr, you should have seen it coming too. But you too called us names. You too put words in our mouths that were never there.

I laugh at your whining. I live in a community that supports each other, that still respects liberty and commerce. I support my local vendors. I support my neighbors. I support my elected officials.

You live in a place where your voice is silenced. You chose poor representatives. You chose to ignore weeks of warnings.

And yet, now you whine. Perhaps you should consider moving. It sounds like you live in a horrible place.

‘The ONLY thing I cannot do that I usually do is go to the movies.’

where do you live that you can go out to restaurants, go to a gym, go to a municipal park to play softball, go to the beach, go have an impromptu party with your neighbors, go to the church of your choice if you care to do so, go to play bingo in order to raise funds, hold a bake sale in order to raise funds, or for that matter assemble with more than a few unrelated people for any reason whatsoever...really, where do you live...? I’ll make preparations to move there tomorrow...

“I’m 71 and have had pneumonia and bronchitis over the years. About 20 lbs. over best weight. Assume that’s a little into the high risk range. But I don’t care.”

I understand. I do care.

Project much...here are your words: I have my liberty, its been changed"

Just in case you are unfamiliar with mutually exclusive statements...this is one you ignorant baboon. How has your liberty been changed? Are you MORE free or less free? By changed it means you CANNOT do things that you previously did and you have adapted. Therefore YOUR liberties have been restricted.

You are a mouse, afraid to stand up and defend the truth and freedom. You are a complete and total traitor to the ideals of freedom, and apparently to f***ing stupid to realize it.

What part of my life has changed is demonstrated in my first response to you -- but you fail to answer that. I am a warrior for my liberty, and the first part of that battle is to educate dumbs***s like you how are arrogant, smug and completely inept at any logical argument.

You and Danny should sail off together to an island where you can engage in the government you deserve. And I am out saving lives everyday practicing medicine in this crises as an intensivist with accurate data that is saving people, unlike Danny;s attempt to tell us how to practice medicine. You are not patriotic and you are not American. Though I loath what you say, I defend to the death your right to say it...as it reveals you to be the jackass you are.

I think one reason for the early skepticism of the CV's threat is that we were told (1) that the CV was introduced into the US in early January AND (2) that the incubation period was 5-14 days AND (3) that it was unlikely to be worse than the common flu AND (4) that the general public did not need to wear masks. Health authorities were saying these things.

And if you looked at the CDC graphs for January to mid-March for CD deaths and new cases, the line (which was not even a tangible curve) was almost flat along the base line until March 12th, when there was a visible rise. Before then, and even for a couple of weeks longer, the authorities seemed to be correct in their optimism.

On another post, I showed how few deaths there were even as late as the end of March. The early data in the US did not suggest what was to follow if the information we had been given was correct.

Yeah, remember the lockdown? Thought it would never end.

Where do you live that you have chains? I would move out of there. It doesn’t sound nice.

Why haven’t you gone out and done some civil disobedience? Why haven’t you gotten arrested with your cohorts in chains?

What exactly have you done? Written a strongly worded post on FR? You are sad.

Go DO something. Bitching at someone else who retained his liberty throughout this is not very productive, is it?
