Awesome. He will be a success, if he can keep that determination.
From Article: The budding scholar said:
“I never would have achieved it without God, my family, my friends and this environment I have around me.
There’s always going to be a challenge or an obstacle that you’re going to have to overcome or grow out of. But as long as you keep true to yourself and have faith and persevere so that you can overcome it, then you will.”
Good story.
Incredibly, the young man has now been accepted to 12 colleges
I wouldnt say incredibly sounds like the kid worked hard for it.
That’s the kind of kid who should be a household name, not the Trayvons of the world.
And glad he’s going to a business school.
Well done and best wishes for success!
It’s really not fair to the kids who could have done the same thing but were afraid of ruining their Shaq-LeBron-Jordan shoes.
“HOW DARE HE!”
Yes what a great story Hildy. Thank you for posting this.
This young man is an incredible role model for people everywhere.
Great story. Had to have at least one strong parental figure.
Poverty and the desire to escape it can be a powerful motivator, for sure. Kudos to the young man.
Huh, 3 miles?
Big deal! When I was a kid back in the day I had to walk 5 miles to school and 5 miles back home, uphill both ways in snow, rain, sleet and freezing cold.
Never even got 1 offer of a scholorship.
Never give up no matter what anybody says.

Id like to hear his experiences on how he avoided being pulled down by his environment and the people around him.
I remember when I was 15-16 years old, my high school debate team partner and I decided that the downtown KC library (twenty miles away) was the place to research and hang out. We Haunted that place.
Looks like the 3-mile walk was worth it.
Good for him. Sounds like he’s got some Booker T. Washington in him.
Great story and wishes for best success to him.
But, shouldn’t that be THE Ohio State University? I’ve seen people kicked to the curb for that infraction ;-)
What a good story! I hope this young man gets everything he wants in his life; he certainly deserves it.
accepted to 12 colleges here is where he goes down hill
